Final Thoughts

Yesterday, during the blizzard, I listened to the ilovebees DVD for the first time since November. I was surprised by the emotional resonance the story still held for me. When in the first chapter of the walkaway girl, James James says to Jan "people will get hurt," well, you know how I felt.

During January, I look back at how I spent my time during the previous year. I admit I was castigating myself for the time I spent on this game --nights I went without sleep, weekends I had to work to make up spending Fridays here, vacation time I could have spent hiking in the woods in Maine -- the long and exhaustive list of things I could, and should, have done instead.

And, yet, listening to the waves, reading the dedication and hearing Melissa's farewell, I realized the time I spent was totally worth it. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity I am glad that I said "yes" to. No regrets. Thanks guys for being there with me.

rose,

Very well put and it all goes for me too. Life is a series of choices and, in this case, we made the right choice.

For all the fun the game itself was, for me, making new friends was the best thing to come out of the entire experience.

I completely agree. I think this is something that I, and I'm guessing most of the rest of us as well, will remember for the rest of our lives.

And from the looks of things, I think some/a lot of the friendships that have formed out of this will also last for quite a while. I know I'd like to keep in touch with most everyone I've met through ILB.

Granted, I don't know how The Beast fared in these respects, but I do know that I'm very glad I took the time to spend with you guys, and haven't regretted a minute of it.

Here here! I was just looking at the lanyard from ILB today and thinking about it all. I still have trouble passing a payphone without looking over my shoulder...

Great post, rose. Smile I myself haven't actually listened to the wavs since early December (as I don't have the dvd Sad), but I still keep in touch with quite a few Beekeepers via Xbox Live, all of whom are the warmest, most wonderful people to play with. I think it speaks volumes of the caliber of person drawn to ARGs that everyone I've met via ILB (whether it be online or offline) has been intelligent and gracious- a far cry from your average 12-year old jerk online, I can tell you! Wink

You know, I think I can agree with everything that has been said, aside from the whole 'talking to people on LIVE' stuff. You people are all wonderful, and that's the best thing I take out of this. The late nights in #beekeepers, chatting on the first day of axons, meeting some of you IRL on the one day I was able to get to an axon... it was amazing. All of it. There were those who said that this promo was like an old ad campaign which made people 'addicted' to those characters, and when they stopped doing the ads, they 'missed' them. Well, if that's all that this was, all the characters I met here will be missed if we ever part our ways. Here's to all of you, and the memories.

Wow, you sound so pessimistic! It's not like we're gone yet! We're still here, so don't start going weepy-eyed on us Wink

*looks around*

What else can be said? For my first arg, it was definitely an experience to remember... I haven't yet sat down to listen to the cd, or all the audio again, but I'm slowly going through it writing up Creepy, and it really is like living it again. The detailed memories are fading, but the imprint will last a lifetime... kind of like the saying 'you never forget your first love' Smile or was it kiss... *shrug* alas, I'm glad ILB was my intro to ARGness

Most of the time I spent on the ARG was time spent socialising... even if it was socialising in an unusual fashion. We got together, we had a common goal, we shared the tasks as much as we could, and we had a BLAST doing it.

I don't regret one second of it. I hope no one does.

-- Steve may not be a true ARGer, as he suXX0rs at teh puzzles, but ILB stands as a great experience anyway.

When you look back on it it's like one of those events you feel was a once in a lifetime attempt. At the time you knew it was big but you were so involved you didn't see it. Like being a kid in a way I guess. An adventure for an (Insert age here) year old.

I would say it was a once and a lifetime opportunity but I got my cell phone on me and I'm still waiting to hear it ring only to see it display Durga off the caller ID screen.

I don't think we are completely done but then again a good game never ends now does it...

Something that you can look back on that gives you so many great feelings was definitely worth late nights and early mornings. It was all fun and very enjoyable, and even the arguments we had in the past are just now something we laugh about. It was a great game and I am proud and grateful to have been a part of it. You guys all mean alot to me.
edit: Just noticed the the "Name the Giant Bee" contest started on Kristen's site, go there for more info.

all i can say is that i miss this game. all the characters, and all of you. i miss running to the computer every friday and the phones every tuesday. it was really a great experience and i'm glad that i got to be a part of it. i actually even teared up just coming back to this site right now, as i havent visited since the endgame...i just dont have much time these days.

anyways, i hope some day i have the time and dedication to experience another one of these. this game motivated me like nothing else ever has. it was honestly one of the funnest things that've happened to me. take care everyone, and hopefully i'll see some of you around.

I agree with the previous. I've been trying to get into other games, but they're not the same. The big difference, I think, is that this one asked you to fix a problem on a single site, rather than solve a mystery spread out over a half-dozen seemingly unrelated sites. Trying to figure out just what was corrupting this perfectly innocent website about bees was far more interesting to me than, say, looking into a business site about selling your soul for wealth that links to four other tangentially-related sites and has an apparently unrelated subplot about some missing person thrown into it to boot on yet another set of sites.

Simplicity. What I miss about the game was the simplicity that was the foundation for all of its complexity.

I'll just wait for The Beast III, I guess. Smile
