[EMAIL] From Charles (Sept 22)

I emailed Charles about the decrypt from the gravestone rubbing and got this as a reply:

Dear GB,

I believe I posted the copy the right way round, but perhaps Karen did not know which way was up, given that it's written in a language she certainly would not have understood. I must confess, it didn't look much different to me either way.

It's a very sorrowful epitaph, seems like a father's reaction to the death of his young child, quite sad really. The stories on my site are mostly a collection of hodge podge heard and collected through the years, most of which I believed not to have much basis in truth or fact. But if this marker is indeed the one from the story posted, I think it more likely an artifact of the European family mentioned, as I don't tend to put much stock in witch stories.

I've done a bit of poking around, but didn't arrive at any solid conclusions. The only thing I found was that there was a man by the name of Barnak in the area with an extremely large family who moved out of the area in the mid 1800s. There is no information to substantiate the story's claim that he had six daughters and seven sons, but I don't believe he was in the area longer than a few years at most. In any case, it's quite a nice piece of history isn't it?

I appreciate the information you've sent and will definitely give credit when I next update the site. I am extremely anxious to see what Karen remembers about it's location, and am secretly afraid the answer will be "nothing". I have left a message, but have yet to speak to her directly since I received the copy.

Thank you again for your interest in CMH.

Charles

So we got a name but don't know if it connects to anything right now...
