[SPEC] The SP's Coffin was the artifact found by Apocalypso

Speculation: The Sleeping Princess represents a Forerunner Intelligence originating from the mysterious artifact picked up by Apocalypso shortly before the slipstream accident which sent Operator AI clones(?) Durga and Melissa crashing (Durga into Jersey's computer and Melissa into the past (our time) to the ILoveBees server).

Item 1: An overheard Axon Clip of a CO in the intelligence business who spoke personally with Capt. Greene before she was "accidentally" killed by a bus.

Quote:

CO: Shortly before they turned for home, the Apocalypso, heavily cloaked and posted deep in Covenant space, began experiencing some slight but troubling anomalies with their computer systems. Just as her captain decided to bring her home, long range sensors detected a curious object adrift in space.
Lieutenant: Where did you get this? I read the reports - none of this is in here.
CO: The object was roughly the size of a tire. A Covenant artifact of a completely new design unlike anything we've seen before, and frankly pretty inscrutible.

Item 2: Melissa's shipboard memory unearthed while the SPDR was still working her over back in August. I speculate this artifact (said by many to be Forerunner because of the markings) is in fact the "Glass Coffin" which held the Princess. The quote is from the perspective of Melissa, the Operator AI onboard Apocalypso.

It was adrift in space: a squat cylinder of dull gray metal, // about the size of a suitcase. Not pure osmium all the way through - it was too dense for that - but osmium was the only firm echo the sensors returned. We cast a net and reeled it in.

It sat in the airlock, inert and cold. Three kelvin interstellar background, no electrical or chemical activity. Very faint magnetic fields in complex tracery. Not an object, then. A device.

OK, cameras deployed and scanning every square centimeter, damn it. The thing was covered in geometric shapes, not embossed but expressed somehow in the grain of the metal. //

Bars and triangles, dots, ordered but non-repeating patterns. A message, yes, // running around the rim like the tread on a tire. I thought: whatever that's telling us, it's something we want to know. Extremely hazardous. Safety glasses required. If found, please return to sender.

Set in the center of the top face was a square, a suggestion of seam no bigger than the palm of a hand. I imagined it sinking back and sliding to one side, a Japanese door offering access to whatever was in there. Or not. Or blowing up if you tried it.

Is it Covenant? 1st Lt Sorenson said. He was the one inside with it; suited, curious but cautious.

Capt. Greene looked thoughtful. It isn't us. Melissa?

I said, I don't know. // If it is, it's new.

Rolf leaned over to touch it. //

Capt Greene said, Don't. Let's not try anything yet.

Bars and triangle, dots and squares. A little like Braille, a little like cuneiform. Felt the old familiar hunger: new language like a new cuisine - delicacies of thought and nuance for me to dig into.

Sorenson said, its got to go in the hold, Captain. It can't stay here. Bring in a dollybot if you like, but something's going to have to touch it. We have to warm it up, too.

Greene didn't like that, but what could we do?

Item 3: Direct answers from the Sleeping Princess supporting speculation that she is a Forerunner artifact.

Q: We've been wondering about your relationship with the Queen. Are you her daughter? Or are you a visiting Princess from another kingdom? Do you have a name other than Princess?

A:The Queen wants to smother me. The Queen wants to lock me up. And I am not her daughter. I'm a lot older than I look, Angela. That's not something I remember, that's something I just know. I'm older than the Flea and I'm older than the Queen and it was bad day for them when the coffin cracked and I got out because I'm never going back there again. I'm a survivor I play to win and I will die before I go back again.

Q: Out of place, lost, alone. Where did you come from? What tools do you require to get back? Your stories intrigue me. Perhaps you could write another?

A: I came from a glass coffin in a hidden crypt under the floor of the deepest dungeon of the castle, Paul! And it would be very easy to go back there: I wouldn't hardly need any tools at all. Just let the Queen catch me, she'd pop me back in there lickety-split.

Quote:

Q: How can we spy on the Queen/Pious flea? Is there a way we can distract them or in some way help you? Who opened the glass coffin?

A: Last things first: I don't know you opened the glass coffin exactly. I suspect that the stuff made to keep me all locked up got broken in what the Queen calls the Shipwreck.

Item 4: The Pious Flea (largely regarded as a likely Covenant A.I.) is very worshipful of the Sleeping Princess, but cannot understand her. This would be consistent with known Covenant attitudes toward Forerunner artifacts--worship but lack of insight.

Hey, Mazian, you forgot to post a link! Mr. Green

This thread has a lot of discussion along these lines.

Locky! ?

Bah. Trout me and lock me.

I guess I fell victim to "old enough to be hard to find on the forums but new enough to not show up on Wikis". That's what I get for attempting to be a part time player. My apologies.
