So that is 15 crew members verified by Melissa. The original Apocalypso had 40 crew members. So maybe 25 more will get a chance to join Melissa's Crew. (probably not me though, considering all but one axon have now moved to the other side of Pennsylvania, and the one on my side, Millvale, could have possibly been destroyed by the flood[Where's the Master Chief when you need him!] from Ivan)

UPDATE: The crew_1.wav (will there be a crew_2?) also lists:

Damn! Beat me to this SPEC. It's not "crew.wav", it's "crew_1.wav" for a reason. More crew will be recruited I believe. Finally, time for redemption! Although, I expect a totally different response this time if I get a live call. As long as I expect George Bush on the other end of the line, I think I should be able to handle Melissa. It's all about setting your expectations....Smile

Well, we already know about Greene, Sorenson, Kowalski, Arrelts, and McKaskill, so that would leave only 20 more -- unless someone decides to impersonate a known crewmember. Mr. Green

On the other hand, Melissa's message on the latest 404 page indicates that she believes some of her so-called "crew" may be "the crew of other vessels who find themselves also shipwrecked like myself, or new recruits who have come to understand the vital importance of our primary mission ... ." This leaves the field wide open for an unlimited number of crewpersons, not just her original 40. It also neatly negates the concern I had with Melissa sending messages to her "crew" at literally hundreds of different locations, when she knew that she actually had a crew of only 40. Thanks, PMs! Mr. Green

about greene

So, we know that Greene is dead, does that mean the position of Captain is open?

And, who wants to tell Melissa? I'm not volunteering for that job.

Interesting that it hasn't occured to anyone to say something like:

"I am sorry, but for security reasons I cannot give my rank, all I can say is that I work for ONI."

I would think that would provide a possible inroad to point out behaviour of the Flea that seem unusual or inappropriate for a SPDR process. After all, who but an ONI spook would be able to find out some of the odd things that are going on?

Well, I can think of three major concerns with that approach:

1) An ONI person wouldn't be so obvious,

2) There was only one ONI contact on that ship, and he's spoken for,

3) I'm not sure that Melissa would have blindly accepted that. She knows, at the least, the ranks of all the people on her crew (even if they are cover stories).

Perhaps, but I seem to remember one of the things I read coming from Melissa that suggests she is aware that her new crew is not necessarilly the same as the original. Maybe I am wrong. However, the suggestion that ONI would be less obvious is flawed to, such an officer would be well aware that the AI could and would keep their nature relatively secret, giving only limited information about being ONI as a means to avoid someone else finding out more than that. After all, who is to say the method of communication in use is secure? You have to think like a spook to pretend to be one and there are valid excuses that can be given for almost any limit you place on the information you give Melissa, at least until you start getting calls from her at home on a 'secure line' as you would imply. Wink But that only works if you are unlikely to have someone else pick it up or make the mistake of telling her it is a wrong number or some other mistake.

I don't think it is as bad of an idea as you seem to think. She knows she isn't on her ship and she is dealing with a lot of people, only some of them military. She would have to be completely delusional to assume the ones with proper responsed 'had' to be her own original crew members. And as I said, I seem to remember something that indicates she is quite aware they may not be.

I think the real problem of claiming to be ONI is that it places demands on a single player we could not meet collectively with the information available.

I would definitely say my rank is classified. Uber Classified. /dork Or something along the lines of it's illegal to impersonate an officer, and I'm calling the police. Also, while we're on the subject of impersonation, the Master Chief isn't from planet Earth. I think the Operator needs to do her homework! :p

*blinks* What?

THE MC, John-117 is not necessarily from Earth, but he is human (meaning his family line is originally from earth) and also, Master Chief is a rank, not an exclusive name/title. But I can see where the confusion came up.

Good post though, and Welcome to Unfiction!

I don't trust the Flea. I fear that the flea may be a covenant AI manipulating a damaged AI (Melissa).

I really think that the capturing of the SP is a problem and we need to figure out a way to release her.

weephun, you started this mess and you may be the only one that can find out the tru7h. Don't let the Flea win...find out what you can!

Sorry for posting this twice...I wanted to make sure the Crew considers it also.
