[SPEC] Mellissa and SP and brain architecture.

Given:
1. Smart AI's are created by flashing doner brains.
2. A brain is basically a bunch of interconnected neurons. The frontal lobe(s) contains most of the high level functions, such as forethought, planning, and memory; whereas, the anterior lobes (stem) etc. contain lower level functions, such as subconcious motor behavior and ecstacy.

3. AI's are not aware of any memories, although they seem to retain all high level function (and beyond).

Spec:
1. The entire brain is mapped, at first, and translated into some sort of computer program.
2. The programmers flashing the doner brain do not know the nuances of everything they're copying.
3. The programmers are instructed to identify and neutralize any memories they discover in the translated AI construct.
4. Since the memory circuits are an integral part of the higher thought processes, the programmers know that they cannot eliminate the circuits outright, so they mask any neuron sequences associated with the doner's memory as hidden and/or unreadable.

(Is the programmers' memory masking technique known to SP as the glass coffin? Is SP an AI version of everything that the AI programmers supressed in Mellissa as they programmed her?)

Now, I don't know what the AI programmers did with the AI's memories, but they couldn't have just eliminated them outright. That would cripple vital higher level functions that are quite desireable in a "smart" AI.

Trivia:

Taxicab drivers tend to have larger hippocampuses than average - due to the vast amount of spatial information they must memorize to navigate their territories effectively.

Old school medicine would say that the brain can be split up into easy-to-identify segments, such as temporal lobe for memory, but that's not necessarily true, especially in "prodigy" types with alternate brain architecture.

There is one guy who decided he wanted to be the human calculator one day, so he began to study alot. Later, he completed a stage performance and it really did seem like he was extremely good at computation. While doing similar problems during a MRI researchers were suprised to find that the middle-aged man used his dominant temporal lobe to acquire his newfound mathematical prowess.

In most textbooks, this is a section of the brain usually set aside for memory(with emotional tags), recognition, and auditory processing. <---

If anyone can find more about this human calculator guy, pls post. This is just what I remember from TLC or the Discovery Channel =/

I'm not a med student or anything, I just read alot of books. I could be horribly wrong.... or horribly right.

Slight correction here: the flash cloning of Dr. Halsey's brain to create Cortana was a special case. Other AIs were created from the brains of deceased people.

Just a tad bit more support:

The Fall of Reach page 236 line 3:

At Dr. Halsey's insistence, ONI had arranged to have her own brain carefully cloned and her memories flash-transferred to the receptical organs. Only one of the twenty cloned brains survived the process. Cortana had literally spring from Dr. Halsey's mind, like Athena from the head of Zeus.

emphasis mine.
