Bungie games and timelines never go well together.

There's also the monkeywrench of cryostorage during interstellar travel. I don't know what the average duration of a trip would be, or if the SPARTANs would be kept "on ice" for any great lengths of time. If so, that'd explain why J2 is only in his biological fifties whereas the SPARTAN-IIs are in their chronological early forties.

-- Steve does agree, though, that Bungie timelines get a bit tangled.

Jan's farther I would say is probably in his mid fifties to early sixties. Since Jan is seventeen we now her mother was at least in her late thirties before she was born since he hadn't gone through menopause yet. He was probably accepted into the Spartan I program because he was relatively young, probably 19 to 25. Him probably being towards the younger end. The Spartan I program probably started at most 2 years before the Spartan IIs. Considering the reasons behind the Spartan program and the lengths they went through to do it the importance they set upon the program was probably pretty high and was expedited because of it.

So lets say he was 21 when he joined, 2 years training would make him 23, then maybe a year (probably doing missions during that time to show there success rate) between the end of the Spartan I and the beginning of the training of the Spartan IIs. Then 8 years till the Covenant War then another 15 years till the fall of Reach. That would likely make him 57. Considering the year that is probably still relatively young.

One thing I'd like to know why they weren't re-commissioned when things with the Convenant obviously started going bad. Even at their age the Spartan I's would still be an effective weapon against the Covenant. Was it because of cases like Gillie?

Useless but fun spec.
