You don't really sound that bitter to me, just a bit peeved. I've tried for three axons in Manhattan, even taking my lunch break an hour late and staying here 2 hours after I should have been home already. Never had a chance. The one I stayed late for was a broken phone, and the other I missed twice cause of the trains. At least you got to contribute, I got in too late for the puzzles, and now fo rthe axons too. At least I'm here now, and I'll help anyway I can. Wish I had known about this from the start though.

And if I don't get recruited, I'm going to have a seizure in the Best Western lobby. Period. I do want a little acknowledgement.

And yeah, I know I sound really cranky right now and I know someone's going to post right after me saying that I should shut my hole because I had the chance and I myself screwed it up and I know that someone is thinking that I'm jealous of the people who answered the spikes correctly. First, no I'm not jealous, I'm proud because most of those people deserved it. Second, sure, I screwed up, but look at it from my perspective. Think about if you were the only one in your large city who was doing this game and you had to answer every single payphone in your area and then when the time came for you to get a little acknowledgement for your work, you lost because of one instance instead of looking back at the many many many others.

I think my point is made, I'll stop rambling now.

I'm not going to tell you to shut up. If you want to rant about the situation, it's your right. But mayhaps you're over-reacting just a tad?

What acknowledgement are you looking for? Yes, for those of us wanting to hear all the .wav files in the ilovebees community, we owe you thanks. So THANKS, DELTINAWILDFIRE for activating like a gazillion payphones!

But it sounds like you want acknowledgement from the PM's, and here's where I think you're expectations take you a little over the line. The PM's owe you nothing. Yes, you activated a lot of axons. More than me. But the point of this, I thought, was to merely uncover whatever story there is so we could move on to the next step, not for personal acknowledgement by the PMs. These ARG's are merely puzzles and stories that involve a great number of people, and you get to decide the level of your own involvement. The PM's would just like to get as many people in for the ride, and thanks to you, we, you, everybody get to hear the story hum along. That's your reward for your involvement. Sorry, but the PM's don't owe you some pseudo-military title for your work - they're taking you along for the ride, and that's all they really owe any of us.

Now, if someone in the ARG community could just print up a nice nifty certificate of appreciation for this amazing Axon Activator, that would be greatly appreciated.

Have a great day,
Mike

I'm not even going to touch that.

I've been lurking here since before the "system matastized", but unfortunatly I haven't been able to do anything. This is my first ARG by the way. I live in France so getting to the axons is kinda difficult, although I was dying to. I'm not able to get on after the puzzle solving begins, and it's always over in just a few hours. And I haven't had anything to spec about. I've thought about it tons, but it never worked out right enough for me to mention it on here.

I hope that I'll be able to interact more soon. But I've had a great time just following along. Getting the newest .wavs, seeing what the princess has to say, reading all the spec on here. I've loved it. I hope I can actually say that I participated in more than just thinking about this game by the end. Maybe I will, maybe I won't. But I do know that this has been worth the time. Very Happy Those are my feelings anyway.

I know I feel left out; but, then again, I also know that that's completely unfair, since I haven't answered a single payphone (there haven't been any in my area, at least not until this last set), and the SP's puzzles have all been completely solved by the time I even hear about them.

But that doesn't mean it's not a bit of a let-down. It turns the whole thing from an interactive alternate reality game that I was really excited about, to just another non-interactive story where all I can do is just sit back and watch as other people get to the solutions first. I might as well be watching CSI for all the effect my input has had on things.

So... yeah. Feeling left out. And bitter. Smile

Deltina, I live outside the Pittsburgh area and feel like I should apologize. I have tried to be as involved in this ARG as I could since the time I joined, but I feel like I've let you down. Sorry Deltina, it was not impossible for me to get there to answer those phones and I really should have done more considering everything else everyone has done for this game.
I do not believe there will be another chance for new people to be accepted as crew by a live phonecall from Melissa, however. That's not saying that this is the only chance to be acknowledged as an active player though. But overall, I still think there will be plenty more to do as a community in this game, and don't think anyone should feel left out.

I don't know if I'm feeling left out, but I'm definitely feeling distant.

I aimed for my closest AXON when this all started and ended up outside a Ralph's eating bagels with two other guys. Over the course of the past month, I've hunted four different AXONs, and I'm zero for four. (For my most heartbreaking experience, look here: http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6194 )

In the last round, one of the other Los Angeles AXON hunters messaged me to see if I was going hit any, and I told him, "No, I'm just gonna sit this one out and watch."

Astald,

Dude, don't apologize to me. I have absolutely no bearing on you playing this game or being in this game, so don't feel sorry or anything. What you did was your decision, and you didn't let anyone down. You didn't let me down, you didn't let this community down, and you had some fun. You did what you wanted to do, and I believe that's cool with everyone. Not like someone is sitting behind you with a gun at your head yelling "PLAY ILOVEBEES DAMN YOU!!!"

You did what you wanted. No crime or shame in that. The only downside to it is that you and I never met. Lol. Could of had lunch together or something. So that's about the only thing you missed out on. Wink

I live in Pittsburgh, if I know when and where phones are being called I can either answer them or get one of my buddies to do it. Let me know where I should go

Well that's just great

Some of us will never be able to get to an axon. Others of us get personal interaction from PM's. And now, some of them have decided to not share what they know with the rest of the community untli after the solve (http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6631&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=89). That is

AWESOME.

Awesome for you, maybe, but it doesn't help with the Left Out feeling. Now I'm not just feeling like I'm watching a story I can't effect, now I'm feeling like I'm watching only PART of the story and I'll never really know everything, because the players who actually managed to get On The Inside are deliberately keeping the story secret.

I just sent the Princess a warning e-mail yesterday, saying that the crewmembers may tell Melissa about her, in an effort to get more involved. Now who knows if that road to the game is still open? Who knows if it'll ever get read and replied to?

Who knows if there's still ways to get into the game, or if the rest of us are merely stuck as spectators? You say nobody's holding a gun to anyone's head forcing them to play, but from what I've seen, there's nothing to play.

I've been here since Phase 1 of the site corruption, even before the ilovebees address appeared in the Halo 2 trailer, shortly after the honey jars were sent to people, and the most involved I've managed to get is this post right here.

They're not keeping anything of the story secret - they are the story... it's not like only they'll get the climax of the story or something... they are a part of the story. They are the spies that Melissa now trusts as part of their crew. We're not intended to know what's going on, unless they break that trust and tell us before it's revealed... look at it as 2 different perspectives of the story. We've got the outsider view, they've got the insider. Or think of it like, ok, if they get the answers, they won't have fun solving anything, whereas we'll have the fun of solving.

And you missed my point. It's being an outsider rather than an insider that's making me feel left out. Knowing what's going on = not being left out.

What is there to solve at this point? The Princess was the source of the puzzles, and they were solved long before I signed on each day. All there is now is more answering phones I can't get to.

Like Halrandir, I've lurked on the corners of this experience for a while & this is my also my first interaction with this sort of thing.

I got up at five in the morning to watch the timer hit zero. As far as I can tell, I'm the primary for the Fargo axon. I was present for the first call & have answered every call since. I try to keep up with current developments, usually to find my small insights into the puzzles were realized by others days ago. I'd occasionally drop into the frenzied waters of IRC channels to only to find myself besieged with misinformation & speculative facts that left me more confused than ever. So I watch, and wait, and answer the phone.

Now I realize that it's not quite enough. I should have been in the forums since day one, letting people know I'm here. Is it too late? Who knows? Several times, I've held my breath believing we were at the verge of final revelation only to find myself drawn deeper into new mysteries.

Do I feel left out at times? Sure. Would I like recognition? Of course. And, in reality, nobody here knows everything yet. I honestly think the best way to overcome this is to participate as fully as possible. Look at the puzzles, read the threads, interact with others. I think that everyone involved in this realizes that for every person who gets a personal call, a dozen others are performing vital & necessary tasks. Above all, I believe that Melissa knows that, and, in my opinion, her opinion counts the most. Not everyone gets to serve on the bridge, but a ship doesn't run with officers alone. Whether named or not, we are all crew members and I encourage everyone to continue participating.

Sincerely,

Ensign Pikalek - Fargo Axon
