SPEC: Heart connection and New website Hello
system moderators I wasnt sure where to put this so if this is filed wrong please feel free to refile it properly or tell me where it goes.......
So we now that there is a graphic flash of a beating heart at
http://www.greatwatergeneral.com/heart.html
so there is a new website up posted by luxandpoe over at yahoo.com
http://www.darkplanetonline.com/eggroom.html
Look how the eggroom looks like the human heart.....
I wonder if the way the blood is running in the heart is an indication of how the energy moves in the egg...

I don't think this is in-game; it was registered last May by some guy in Alberta, Canada.

It's definitely not in-game. I used to frequent it months ago.
It is a really good source for information on Ong's Hat though.

Other sirtes Is there some rule that says a pre-existing site can't be enlisted to participate?

I think it is a clue to go there and read. They want us to work with this info and so far it is one of the best sites on Ong's Hat.

Agreed I tend to agree until I'm proven wrong.
There's this site too, which Sunny found something on.
http://www.incunabula.org/resources.html
When I went to the root of that site, I found a blog, which strangely enough has a top entry about the New York Times article about Alternate Reality Gaming.

It's about time the incunabula people found out about the game.
I'm still doubting but it certainly would be interesting if Joe Matheny had a hand in CTW.

I'm not convinced incunabula.org is in-game. The post about the library was posted just today (click on the permanent archive link and look at the date in the URL). The site was also registered in early 1999.
I would guess that the person who posted that is also playing CTW but doesn't actively participate in Unfiction, CD, or the Yahoo! group. They may have posted the link to get people to go to the Aglaura site and then become interested and find out what it's all about. At any rate, speculation aside, I don't believe that it's in-game.

Sites What about this one?
http://www.darkplanetonline.com/eggroom.html
Since the game officially started only recently they may be updating their info to fit in. Who knows? As Barbarellany said, I think I'll work with the info because it seems to be somewhat relevant.
Notice what it says on the Aglaura History page :
In 1978, a man named Wali Fard, who had travelled for years in India, Persia (now Iran), and Afghanistan, and had made a small fortune by importing exotic goods to the US from these regions, purchased about 200 acres of land in the New Jersey Pine Barrens, on the outskirts of what was formerly known as Ong's Hat. In 1980 he moved into an old rod & gun club on the property along with several "followers", and founded the Moorish Science Ashram. The money spent by Fard to refurbish the old Ong's Hat Road and Gun Club and surrounding compound helped rejuvenate the area and the village of Ong's Hat was reborn. Despite rumors of strange doings at Fard's Moorish Science Ashram, the influx of money and people helped get Ong's Hat on the road to becoming a functional community again. When the Ashram suddenly and mysteriously shut down and "disappeared" a few years later, the people of Ong's Hat once again found themselves struggling to eke out an existence at the edge of the New Jersey Pine Barrens and Lebanon State forest.
From what I've read in the ebook it would seem that the information at least is important somehow.

As far as I've noticed and can recall, it has been about a year since Dark Planet updated the content in the eggroom.
And yes, of course the information is relevant. The game is inspired by the original incunabula material.

If you look at the newest entry , you'll see the NYT article and stuff about 8march2003. I can't imagine that an ingame site would link to an article that includes information about the game.
Character, you are not real and just part of an elaborate game. Sorry, you'll just have to learn to deal with it.

Come on, the PM's probably contacted them with the game idea and they agreed to let it go. And why not. look at all the attraction they are getting. Their story of Ong's Hat is getting out there. I think we use the info and stop worring about in game. They said we would use real world resources and this is one of them.

I agree about using real world resources and such. They are a must for research and spec. They also help to flesh out a world. As for worrying about whether things are 'ingame' or not, I'll continue to do so. I think making the distinction can be relatively important. It helps, at times, in knowing what aspects of a site to focus on and it can save you from some time & energy in contacting people.
Right or wrong, people tend to do things with in-game sites (such as trying to figure out passwords, hidden directories, and the like) that might not be appreciated by not-in-game webmasters. I remember back to the Ring when people figured out how to access the administration side of a message board through a mistake made by the webmaster. At the time we were itching for an ARG and hoping that the Ring, with the number of sites it had on the internet, was one. Unfortunately, it wasn't an ARG. Fortunately, the webmaster didn't get all that upset about people playing around in parts of a site that were not meant for public access. I'm not so sure that another webmaster would be so kind. So, I think the distinction between in-game sites and not-in-game but great information sites should be made.
This does not make the information on the site any less valuable and it may prove to be very important in the future. It does, however, change the way that I, and probably others, view the site.
