please fix

ElGamer, could you please edit your ASCII number string so that it isn't so long? It's making the posts in this topic difficult to read. Thanks.

Nice solve, people!

A week

We will probably have to wait a week until we have the key.

Seven Metals, with Seven doors.

The Platinim Suite
The Gold Suite
The Silver Room
The Copper Suite
The Mercury Mini-Suite
The Iron Room
The Nickel Room

So the key must be in/on the GMH.

That background is new. It was not there last night. The only thing behind the text about the seeker and the doors/gates was black. Just to let everyone know.

If it wasn't there before, then we should probably take it as a hint?

Looks like the greek letter Lambda. It's typically used in chemistry as the symbol for radioactive half-life.

"The seeker came now to a town as he walked along. Seven metal
doors or gates there were."

We have 7 metals.

"Once the final gate was behind"

On the periodic table, the last of these 7 metals is Mercury (80). If Mercury is behind us, then we're on Thallium (81).

" a seeker had to wait a week until he was sent for."

Taking this as a symbolic statement, this would mean 'add 7', that gives us Radium (88), a radioactive element.

"This time the one door is opened by a key that hangs there."

Is Radium in some way the key/answer? The half life of radium 226, the most common isotope is 1600 or 1620 (references vary).

Or.. we have to wait a week. Smile

ARRR! Those pages are driving me crazy!!! Why can't I view the source OR even save the page???

How is that possible????

EDIT: Figured it out. The page uses Active Content(which I'm assuming is like a program within the webpage) . You can view the source if you save the first file to your computer and go from there.

No, that's the thing, you can't. Somehow it blocks any attempt to save or view source the last page.

That source code is pretty interesting, by the way. I'm not good enough at JavaScript to figure it out.

I can view the source... Its probably because I'm using Firefox. I think Firefox also has an extention that allows you to right click even when it is normally disabled.

It may be your browser. My IE lets me view source, if i do it by using the menu. Also, i heard people are having issues with cut and paste on other pages while the 7th sons page is open, and i'm not having problems with that either, ONLY on the 7th sons page can i not right click.

hi, all...brand new to all of this ARG stuff, you're all better at it than i am, etc etc....but i wanted to bring up the following: in the initial seventhsons login screen (who are you?), i typed in 'iamyou' and got access to a snippet of binary-looking-code much like the "correct" answer's, only different. not sure if it means anything, but might be worth looking into?

edit: nevvermind (see next post); thanks Zi.

Analysis of the javascript

I decided to analyze the javascript just in case we missed something. The short story is we didn't. For those interested in understading what the hell is going on there and why you sometimes get garbage, here's the analysis:

When you enter a password it first goes through an MD5 algorithm and a hash of it made. For those who don't know, a hash is a huge number that's calculated given a certain input. You cannot know what the input was if you're given the hash and it mostly serves as a "fingerprint" for the input because it's very hard (almost impossible) to find two inputs that will output the same hash.

Anyway, once there's a hash it's converted to base64 (readable ascii) or something (it's not really relevant) and then each byte of this something is XORed with the next byte. So eventually we end up with one byte that is the result of all the XORing and the script expects it be 0x2D (45 decimal) if the password is right. So basically, there's a 1 in 256 chance that a certain password will pass the check. That's why the password "Ed House" is accepted although it's not the right one.

So why do we get the garbage? Simple. There's a blob of encrypted text inside the script. The hash that was produced earlier is then being used as a key on this blob of text to decrypt it. If the password is incorrect, the decryption will produce garbage. And what is this text? it's the HTML of the page you see next.

That's it, we didn't miss anything. Thanks to herichon for cleaning up the source. It made it much easier to read.

I didn't see this mentioned here so:

(from IRC)

Quote:
(enaxor) after that there is no login, but since that room is antechamber, I tried hall.html which gave me another login

We need another name here.

Well, the login is gone, and the color has changed. Its now a kinda lite-ish red (But not pink Smile)

Did we get past the last door, and now have to wait a week to be invited farther in?

Everything is gone indeed. Even the internal pages. Can somebody post hall.html?
