 		Okay, obviously the times are 'military time'. But I think we're looking at another decryption here. And perhaps this isn't the pregame, perhaps the opening of the box is what we are trying to prevent.

A rundown from the happy world of the MU chatroom and IU board regarding communication:

a) Feeling generally stuck, I email CTAP to let them know Dr Lorenzo isn't associated with Zeke and ask for more information in return for my help.

b) They don't give me any more information but tell me that thanks to my help, they'll have cracked the code by 8am tommorow morning (friday) This is good (we find the email address) but bad (because once CTAP work it out they can put a "sniffer" on it and read all the emails that go through it.) They also tell me that if we contact anyone involve to use Zeke's name in the conversation so it's flagged up on the EAGLEEYE system and the account can be sniffed that way.

c) Therefore, if you want to help Zeke (cos fugitives RULE!) then don't use his name in the conversation.

d) The code is cracked by people. The Derek emailing begins. He gives us the same set of times as someone posted earlier. We let him know that we think it's for the best if he gets a new email address quickly before CTAP crack it, in order to protect Zeke.

e) We can't use Zeke's name so we ask him to look it up on WHOIS and see if it rings any bells. He tells us he'll leave that complicated stuff up to us... dammit! He's pretty shook up about the whole thing so I email him to calm his nerves. He says he'll get a new email address tommorow afternoon, and that he'll read any email he gets to his original account but not respond to it, or respond to it from his new account. He promises to let us know the new email address too.

f) Send cryptic message to postmaster. Also advise to change address. Gets same response as posted here: "THE TRUTH WILL OUT."

g) I attempt to make up for my earlier blunder (cluing in CTAP about the Doc) by telling them we cracked the puzzle and giving them a fake email address. They lap it up... but tell me that they will try and confirm the address soon. Hopefully we've bought some time for Derek & Zeke.

It looks like this might shape up to be a "team" game... CTAP seem keen to recruit players to join their volunteer branch, VCTAP. And then some people are going to want to help Zeke... ah, the old divide and conquer.

Last thing: game launches midnight, October 11th.

 		I figured it was somebody else working on it. Good stuff diverting the CTAP and helping our fugitive friend. I've decided not to e-mail the confused guy further until there is a more secure acount. So, we know what Dr. Lorenzo was all about.

We still have to work on those times though. I'm not really putting a lot of effort into it right now but suffice to say I've come up wtih nothing except episode number of Roswell the Series. Rolling Eyes

I don't advise calling it, as it will put you in contact with those that are looking for me. They are everywhere, and nothing escapes their notice.

I have methods of avoiding those that hunt me, and therefore you do not need to worry about me for the time being. However, the time may come when I need to contact you. It has been requested that I go into my decryption technique in more detail.

The problem with automatic base conversion tools is that they frequently convert fractional values as well - in cases where you are dealing with a cipher, the remainder is always less that the base (26 in this case) and thus it can be used to represent another character.

In the decimal system, the placevalues are 1, 10, 100 ...
In base 26, the placevalues are 1, 26, 676, 17576, 456976, 11881376, 308915776, 8031810176, 208827064576 ...

When converting a number (by hand) from base 10 to base 26, start with the greatest placevalue that is less than the number being converted. Integer divide the number by the placevalue, then integer divide the remainder by the next placevalue, then integer divide _that_ remainder by the next placevalue, and so on until you hit base 1. Walknig through an example is much easier to follow:

Start with 10191. An online conversion tool and rot decrpytion will translate this to C1M. But manual calculation gives something different.

10191 / 676 = 15 Remainder 51

Divide the remainder by the next base

51 / 26 = 1 Remainder 25

Divide the remainder by the next base

25 / 1 = 25

So stop. The number sequence is 15, 1, 25. Using A=1, B=2, C=3, ... That is OAY.

OAY decrypted using ROT-14 is COM.

I hope this clears up my decryption technique - I have reattached my original calculations for DWIKSTROM and GMAIL. I apologize for any confusion. I was very tired when I finally decrypted that sequence but as I read my original post again this morning I see it was anything but clear.

 		Well... using Robert's translation, I deciphered the poster's username.
