[TRIVIA][SPEC]Bee Facts and Frivolous Knowledge

I posted this in another thread here...

Quote:
Jersey: You're a Navy sentinel aren't you?
Durga: No. There were two of them trying to get past your security-bot though.
Jersey: Jeezus, what did you do to them?
Durga: Just a little sting. More like a pinch. They barely felt it.

Quote:
Durga: A bee dies when it stings you

However, Queen bees sting multiple times. Upon maturing, the new queen will sting every other immature queen bee in the hive.

Oh god, I know too much about bees.
When you lose a queen in a hive, you buy a new one.
The new queen bee comes in a cage made of sugar. To intoduce the queen to her new hive, you place the cage of sugar into the hive itself.
The workers will go to work eating the cage, and in the proces, bond with the new queen within.

Ask me anything about bees, please. ^^

Yes, I thought about it previously, I couldn't make a connection though.
A friend of mine used to raise bees, until he starved them to death one winter.

All bees can repeatedly sting other bees or other insects many times. Bees die after stinging a human (or other animals) because the barbs of their stinger get stuck in the flesh instead of pulling back through the hard exoskeleton. The stuck stinger rips the back end off of the bee when it tries to fly away, etc, etc.

at least thats what I remember from jr high science and bio Wink been a few years

Correct. Human flesh is too firm for the bee's stingr to pull back out.
But the queens are a different story.

So, the Princess is the Replacment for the Queen?

Does that mean that someone was eating the Glass Coffin? Wouldn't that hurt?

You mean like the "Glass Eater" from Perdita/SP's story?

it has been stated b4 that we are the bees and as Sketchy stated (and evidenced by SPARMY), we are acclimating to a new queen, the SP.

Great. After reading this thread I have visions of Melissa wearing an "Ask me about bees!" badge.

Is there anything else you all want to know about bees? Just ask. I know too much. Far too much. About many things.

i have a daily "random fact of trivia" calendar on my desk, today's fact:

"Total amount of food produced in the US that has been pollinated by bees: 30 percent"

i THINK they mean 30 percent of fruits and vegetables after you discard meat, but they could mean 30 percent total (what's the percentage of plant items in the average American's diet?)
