[Email] from Charles 09/14

Yeah, I'm posting this several weeks after I got it. I initially thought it wasn't important. Than I changed my mind. Than I changed my mind again. Then I went 'What the hell, it's an ARG, every little bit helps'.

I emailed Charles posing as a fashion photographer (please ignore my sad, sad attempt at encrypting a message). I was trying to find out who owned/controlled the CMH, but then we found out that TT had rented it under an assumed name through another source, which was the information I was ultimately after anyway. Apparently though the hospital is co-owned by the city and the state. Charles also mention that they don't like to hear from him. I wonder why.

Charles' letter wrote:
Dear F. Jerome,

First of all you are correct in that there are a lot of construction/demolition projects going on at CMH. I wouldn't think it would be safe at all to have young girls traipsing through there, downright dangerous in fact.

But if you have your heart set on shooting at CMH, I would suggest contacting the state and the city of Cambridge, as they are co-owners of the hospital and property. Unfortunately, I cannot put in a good word for you as they don't much like to hear from me, and if you've any hope of securing a permit I would suggest not using my name to do it.

Good Luck

Charles

My original letter, typos et all. wrote:
Dear Charles,

I'm a fashion photographer currently in search of an interesting and unique
location for a gothic fashion shoot. An abandoned and supposedly haunted
mental health institute would be perfectly.

Maybe you could help me? Looking around your site, I couldn't quite figure
out who has legal control of the buildings. Of course, I'd assume it'd
be the state, but I wasn't quite sure. Often times these places get sold
on for redevelopment, after all. Kinda embarrassing, sometimes, showing
up at a shoot to find that what were picturesque ruins yesterday are a construction
site today. It's sad that we're so eager to scrap out own history, but
it's a common tragedy. Not that it's any excuse.

Getting along with this matter, I don't expect to be bringing that much
of a crew with me. Four models, at most. One or two lighting technicians
and a hair and makeup girl. Really not a big group and we promise we'll
behave. Could you let the owners know that, too? Having someone put in
a good word for you helps unbelievable in getting permission to shoot at
a restricted area, I've found. I'm sorry to ask so much of you, but I'm
really becoming obsessed with this hospital. Capturing it all of its sad
beauty on camera before it falls to developers or the elements would be
a joy to me.

Obliged greatly for your help,

F. Jerome

The following is my behind the curtain explination for why we get discouraged from visitting sites like CMH. it's only behind a spoiler because there are people who would {might still} yell at me for acknowledging the curtain, let alone discussing the thinking involved.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Do be quite honest, I think it's the pm's way of trying to make sure they don't get into trouble for pointing people at a real site for a game. I'm sure we all know what happened when Blair Witch Project was filmed. The first movie came out, and people refused to believe it was just a movie and went to the actual woods there. For the filming of the second movie, They were banned from filming ANYWHERE near there.

I do believe everyone who has mentioned in an email to charles {and probable all the chars} about visitting CMH {or even GMH} have been discouraged. That is the hazard when using real life places for games/stories. And although i am pretty sure none of us were actually going to visit these places, or expected to honestly meet chars face to face, the pm's can't really take a chance in that.

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain... now go fetch me that broom!
