First, nice logo. Smile

Sorry, no mouse or keyboard. And you can't play PC players on the XBOX or vice-versa. (The XBOX all runs through XBOX live; PCs use different servers.)

That being said, I think you'd be able to adapt--maybe you could use a combination of the Force and caffeine? (Plus, walls are good for hiding, so that's something.) The controls are actually pretty good. And, unlike Doom or Unreal or some of those games, Halo does not move at "warp speed." It moves at a more normal, human (or Spartan II) speed, if that makes sense. I just remember after playing Halo for a while, I tried playing Unreal and couldn't figure out what the hell was going on, everything was going so fast.

Also, I'll just say right now that someone probably beat me to all of this, since I've taken so long typing ....

Edit: I do know how to spell caffEIne!

Publicly, Bungie has not admitted to working on a PC version of Halo2 at all. Given that it took at least a year for Halo to come to the PC (longer maybe? I'm not sure), your options are narrow.

I'll edit that a bit. It's not that Bungie "has not admitted" to working on a PC version. they have publicly stated that they are not working on one. They didn't make one for Halo, either. It was done by an outside company, a "port" of Halo for XBox.

It, therefore, seems unlikely that there will be a PC version anytime soon (if at all) and it seems REALLY unlikely that it will have access to XBox Live and be able to play with XBoxen

Are you SURE you need your mouse?

I had never played Halo until I played it on the PC.
Then I met some guys who had Halo parties with the Xbox and I had to adapt.
It took one 5hour night of multiplayer, but now I can play either way. A few Halo parties later and I'm womping on them!

You can do it!

haha! So I'm not the only one Smile yeah... Halo is a lot more realistic in that sense... I used to be an enormous PC FPS player, but really Unreal Tournament was the last online fps I played on the PC... my pc gaming slowed down over the past few years, and when I picked up the Xbox years ago, my pc gaming all but disappeared.

If there's any console that suits a pc gamer the best, CoffeeJedi, it's the Xbox, trust me. As for controllers, you'll just have to try out what's available to see what works for you best. I started on the duke (the big original controller) and haven't left it... but they released a smaller (what I consider) half-PS2 controller for all those small-handed people who kept complaining Razz I personally just can't use it... if they had left the button configuration the same, then maybe, but they shrunk it and moved everything around, and just, blah! (That's the Controller S BTW, the now standard controller that comes with all xbox's)

Anyway, yeah, that's one reason why Halo is so addictive. It's so unique. For some reason it just emanates a much stronger sense of being where you are, not just playing a game in a game-environment. And even though technically the character moves slower than 'standard' fps's, it really doesn't feel like it because the action balances it out perfectly. ie, 'slower' isn't a loss if everything moves at a more reasonable pace. So the action is never 'slower'; on the contrary, it makes it that much more intense Smile

As for switching from keyboard to controller, well, that just takes time, patience, practice and dedication... there are players out there who could rival the best keyboard players on a controller... seriously... hard to believe Smile... I don't think I'm quite there yet, but I consider myself far above average at least.

I've played Halo on Xbox and PC, though predominately on Xbox, and I must say that the thumbstick is the only way to fly. A lot of FPS's don't work too well on consoles, but what you have to remember about Halo is that it was designed specifically for the Xbox controller, and since the Xbox was still in the design stages, the Xbox controller was altered at times specifically for Halo. In the end, you get a controller that, while big (USE THE BIG CONTROLLER), is perfect for the game. And yes, Unreal's speed is, well, unreal.

Just play it a few times (before Halo 2 comes out) and on November 9th, we'll all be on the same playing field.

My co-worker is too cheap to buy an Xbox but he still wants to play Halo like an Xbox. So he purchased an xbox controller and some dohicky that allows him to connect it to USB. He now plays Halo PC like the xbox version. We can no longer whoop him like a step-child.

My gamertag is: Kbach, or it might be K-bach. I'm not sure. I've haven't done XBL in a long time.

You'll do fine. My roommate is a recent inductee to video games on his PC, but for a console he keeps saying "how do you play? there are so many buttons!!" I remind him he already uses an entire keyboard, but he won't listen when I tell him that he doesn't need to use two analog sticks, the d-pad, and all the buttons at once.

i played it at my buddy's house the other weekend, after 30 minutes or so, i did pretty well running and shooting, he had the newer controllers, not the giant ones, still felt weird to me, about half of us were pc gamers, we all felt weird with thumbsticks
aiming doesn't seem as precise to me, my thumb doesn't have the same precision as my hand/wrist
complicated moves were hard to pull off, like jumping sideways, spinning the opposite direction and shooting an enemy... something like that's pretty easy on a keyboard/mouse combo, but hard with a controller because i couldn't sidestep and jump at the same time

maybe a miracle will happen and someone will release a Halo2 compatible mouse adaptor before Decemberween

For all of you pc gamers (me included), look at it this way, you are just fine tuning those great hand-eye coordination skills that you already have. After one 6 hour lan party I had picked up all the skills I needed to crush my roommates. The great parts is that it is just like riding a bike, you never forget. Once you have the skills you can jump back on at anytime with minimal effort to refresh your skills.
