[SPEC] Durga is Covenant

Someone quoted a couple of blocks of text from he HALO books the other day, where they were talking about Covenant reverse-engineering Human tech. We also know that "Melissa" is the Human AI, that's all but confirmed I believe. Those are the facts I'm working with...

Now, in the first "Team Jersey" wav, Durga says "Wet the ground. Soak in like water." That sounds a bit like the tactics the flea has been using, soaking into the Operator/Melissa. He first replaced the SPDR program, then did his best to !attach to Sleeping Princess. He's trying to soak into that system, which sounds like what Durga said.

She's also desperately afraid of being "given back" to the government. That doesn't sound like someone who is looking for a military crew. It sounds more like a spy.

Anyhow, "wet the ground" just sounds ominous the more I listen to it. Feel free to trout me. Smile

Melissa also said that before she started getting influenced by the Flea. I think she actually said wet the system. Or maybe saturate the system.

Re: [SPEC] Durga is Covenant

Actually, they both said "Wet the system." From the Phase 3 Operator's Monologue:

Melissa wrote:
First stage is always to wet the system. Sink in...

From escape.wav:

Durga wrote:
Wet the system. ... Like water hitting the ground sinking in.

Interesting idea. Just, one quick note her - Melissa, in the texts of hers, somewhere along the line, talks about voices in her head. These voices, IE - the .wav files - could possibly have influenced her slightly in the monolouge. Just when she's trying to reconstruct her memories about what to do, she runs a scan for related info, and runs into Durga's "wet the system" comment, and takes it as instructions for what to do at the time, not realising exactly what the voice is - not a memory, but a message from the future. But, as it seems that in this ARG, overanalysing is bad, like with the Princess's name, so I'm probably wrong.

Actually you guys are only using part of the quote from melissa's page, she says "wet the system" but adds "like the blood Odeyssius spilled" (or something to that effect) instead of "like water sinking into the ground"

the parrellel to the audio is obviously ment to draw our attention, so here's a question, what is the blood Odessius (how DO you spell that?) spilled?

I remember him blinding the cyclops from freshman English, but thats not really spilling blood I think... Any mythology buffs out there?

Not a mythology buff, but I did a quick Google for Odysseus and blood. Here's my first hit, I'll go back and look for more, edit them in if needed.

Quote:
Having descended to Hades, Odysseus made a blood offering in order to attract the souls of the dead, not letting anyone approach the blood of the animals he had sacrificed before he had talked with Tiresias. Any soul having access to the blood could hold a rational speech with Odysseus, but those who were denied the blood would leave him alone and disappear.

Tiresias, whose mind was unchanged since Persephone had granted him to keep his wits in Hades, warned Odysseus of the wrath of Poseidon, and advised Odysseus not to harm the cattle of Helius in Thrinacia (Sicily). He also informed him about what was taking place in Ithaca, where many SUITORS, wishing to marry his wife, lived at his expenses. Finally Tiresias prophesied that Odysseus' death would come in his Old Age, far from the sea and in a gentle way [see also ODYSSEUS IN HADES, and "The Cattle of Helius" at Charybdis].

EDIT: Animal blood is all well and good, but here's something possibly more relevant.

Quote:
The seer then warned Odysseus not to touch the herds of Helios when he would reach the island Thrinacea. If he did, he would reach home on a foreign ship, only to find misery, the suitors, in his palace. He would kill the suitors, and then take an oar on his shoulder, and walk until he would find a people who did not recognize the oar, and there make a sacrifice to Poseidon. After that, he would reach old age in peace and happiness, and die a mild death coming from the sea.

*LOTS OF STUFF HAPPENS*

Odysseus now went to the swineherd Eumaeus, and revealed his identity to him and Telemachus. Together, they went to the palace. Odysseus was disguised as a beggar, and was beaten and ridiculed by the suitors. Only his old dog Argus recognized him, wagged its tail and died.

When Penelope looked after the beggar she asked him if he had heard anything of her husband. Odysseus told him he would be back very soon, but Penelope did not dare to belive him. Cleaning him, Odysseus old nurse recognized a scar on his body, but he told her to be silent.

Penelope now put the suitors through a final test. She showed them Odysseus bow and said she would marry whoever could shoot an arrow through the holes of twelve axes in a row. One after one they tried, but they couldn't even pull the string.

The beggar Odysseus asked to have a go, and under ridicule and laughter he shot a perfect arrow through the twelve axes, then turned the bow against the suitors and started killing them with the help of Telemachus. After this the treacherous maids were punished, and finally, the palace was clear.

By killing the suitors, Odysseus had blood on his hands
and he cleaned the house with sulfur. Penelope still doubted, but when Odysseus told her that their bed was made of olive tree, a sectret only he would know, she finally believed. Odysseus then went to his old father and they all lived happily ever after.

I'll leave interpretation to the smart people. Razz

Hey I remember that stuff!!!

He went to the edge of the world (ground leading to underworld suppose to be thinner or something there) and dug a hole 6 ft into the ground (6 ft under eh?) and spilled a cow's blood into the ground...

the fact that the blood hit the ground makes more sence to me as far as which quote matters... but what is significant about that as opposed to just water hitting the ground?

Maybe the fact he had to dig first....

not sure...

Melissa makes lots of references to the Odyssey. At one point I kept a list of them showing that the in-game references to the Odyssey were about equal in number to the in-game references to the Haloverse. The reference to Odysseus spilling the blood to allow people to in Hades to talk was one that I thought people understood. She said it just before she started to "talk" to us using Durga's recordings of the waves. But posting the information about it was an great find.

Remember when we first were given those two quotes, we had yet to figure out that Durga was a mirror of Melissa or a ghost of Melissa somehow. [ I don't think we know exactly how they relate yet. But it does seem that Durga is not infected by the Pious Flea, as we know Melissa is.]

The duplication of the quotes was a signal to us that the two ai were related and that Durga was the source of the waves. Since Melissa's last post on the about.html page has confirmed that, we know that we were right about that spec at least.
