[EMAIL - SOLVED] Misunderstood.mp3

ARGN received this mp3 this morning. Don't know if it's meta or ingame, but here it is, fwiw.

Oh, the subject line: Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood

The binary comment in the id3 v2 tag converts to "Everything comes together in time."

The binary in the id3 v1 comment tag appears to be nothing in ASCII but as decimals is 4 5 7 6 6 5 7.

I wouldn't say it's "nothing", I get "Eve" plus a void box which is not totally gibberish.

I recall talking to... Sequoia, I think it was, this morning, and she said that somebody on the UI forums got the same email, but it was sent to an email that they did not sign up for Gateway.

Oh yes it is Eve, the binary length is not a multiple of 8 though. So there's a spare 0111 (or 7) at the end.

I think that the v.1 and v.2 tags contain the same text, just the v.1 one is limited by the maximum count of the characters that can be stored in it:
v.1 comment:
0100010101110110011001010111
v.2 comment:
0100010101110110011001010111001001111001011101000110100 . . .

The message is obviously "Everything comes together in time." Maybe it's a indication that more clues are comming in the future. Or maybe it has something to do with the length of the mp3 file (or files)?
The length of misunderstood1.mp3 is exactly 60 seconds.

I really should have posted this earlier, but I and a fair few others think that this email was just a 'meta' thing rather than an in-game clue, or a puzzle.

[META]
ARGN had sent out an email to those on their list about Project Gateway which suggested that one should excercise caution as the ARG used free sites, a fair point by all means.

My interpretation of Misunderstood is that it was a reply to this and similar sentiments that have been expressed about Gateway. As in, "Don't misunderstand this ARG, you'll see in time how it all fits together".

A supporting thing to this would be that the email was not sent to any addresses that have signed up as players - we've clearly already bought in, so don't need to receive this message.
[/META]

Seqoya's spec sounds right - I'm willing to believe it. Also, I'm not willing to believe that there's more to that damned butterfly picture. Smile I also heartily enjoy the idea of an extremely minor puzzle being used in this way.

This seems to be something to do with the second half of the riddle we just got:
Quote:

And don't let me be misunderstood, but look over some old files like you should.

For puzzle solvers you miss the obvious, because teamwork rules in this game of problems.

So compare your notes, compare your files, because your and your neighbor are off by miles.

So we are guessing that teamwork, your neighbor etc refers to us and IU.

Somehow the two files together will give us an answer.. they fit together perfectly, but we haven't found anything to give us a new command yet.

I'm going to try layering the two songs on top of each other in various ways. They're the same length so this might be what we're supposed to do.

(Note: just did a straight one on top of the other--nothing interesting on listening except that it sounds kinda cool. Smile )

Got half the key! (time2.key)

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Use Camouflage on misunderstood2.mp3 with the key of "time".

Presumably the other half is in misunderstood.mp3.

BTW, you can get camouflage here: http://camouflage.unfiction.com/
