Shouldn't that be October 1? (Want to confirm before I try to edit.)

Fixed, thanks.

[SPEC]now what?

I wonder if this puzzle will call for any action on our part. The following bit of SP/PF conversation got me thinking on it.

Quote:
friends > !reveal Subject 5 >> master-sector
seeker > !transmit Durga

How will you know they are the right ones?
seeker > !analyze friends transmit proc
friends transmit proc >> Creepy

SP and PF intend to share the Subject 5 things with Durga, but who knows if we might be in a position to help them.

Is there any way to see the embedded text on a Mac?

(I wish I had a PC, but I need a Mac for school... grr...)

If you have the BSD subsystem install and a clue how to use it:
1. open a terminal window
2. type "strings " (note space after the word strings)
3. drop the file you want to find hidden text in onto the terminal window
4. hit return

This will print all the text strings (including ones that occurred by random chance).

have i told you guys recently that you rock?

No?

Well you rock.

I've posted the .wav links to Bungie.net, as that was my first forum home.

I'm kind of an ambassador between the two now ^_^

Damn this mortal coil and its need to sleep!

I can make Fortune Tellers (Cootie Catchers) blindfolded with both hands tied behind my back!

Regarding boston_emergency.wav

I didn't know "wetwork" meant the sound the assassin makes when he falls off your roof...

... And Grissom would have never blown Rani off about the clean ankles and the blood in the dead guy's ears...

Different take on athena solution

Hey guys, just finally got around to checking out the na-cat.gif anigif, and I think the creators were actually shooting for a different solution process.

The DELTACAT thing from cutebee2.gif is really referring to a change in the cat, and in frame 16 of the gif, the cat actually changes into an owl. Here it is, blown up:

And of course owls being associated with a certain goddess, that being Athena.

One thing maybe someone can help me with is, could you describe the process of how to extract the hidden image from groupofjars.jpg? I'm not getting it. Thanks!
Smile

We certainly think so. The puzzles and their solutions are listed on the Fireflies Wiki here, with ordered links to the audio clips they unlocked at the bottom. Share and enjoy!

[SPEC] Goddesses

CoffeeJedi wrote:
i figured it was just a marker to look for the change in the cat picture (delta-greek letter used in physics for "change in"), the change of a bee into g-o-d-d-e-s-s

a bee changing into a goddess.... apparently the Egyptian goddess Neith could do that

edit: DAMNIT its athena... which i was JUST ABOUT TO TRY... because the Greeks equated Neith and Athena

Please feel free to smack me if this is trout.

Since it seems to be the consensus that Melissa, Durga and the SP are versions or parts of the same AI, a few thoughts on our little Trinity:

1. Potnia was a pre-Homeric/Minoan/Mycenaean goddess, one of whose symbols was the bee. Her priestesses were known as Melissas (Melissa means either "bee" or "honey" or possibly both in pre-Homeric Greek.

2. In Indian mythology, Durga is the warrior goddess who slays the evil king Mahishasura, who has usurped the rule of the gods. Despite being a maiden in the myths, she is worshipped as a mother goddess who destroys evil, protects her devotees, and establishes peace and prosperity on earth. However, she is closely associated with Kali, the goddess of destruction, who's not quite so warm and fuzzy.

3. Sleeping Princess myths are common to almost every culture on earth. Most folklorists agree that they represent the way nature (generally personified as female) goes to "sleep" in the winter and reawakens in the spring. The most obvious example is the myth of Persephone, although that's abduction rather than sleep.

So...how does this apply to our girls?

[SPEC] We've already seen the abduction and rescue of the SP, so she's more or less fulfilled her myths. I wonder if Durga's going to slay something evil. There is an actual woman named "Melissa" in Greek mythology -- a daughter of Melissus, the king of Crete, who nursed the infant Zeus and was later transformed into a bee. So, maybe Melissa will bring something to life (or perhaps she's harboring something -- Kronos wanted to kill Zeus -- the Pious Flea, perhaps?).

Edit: Should have read the last several pages before posting to learn that you've solved the skulls picture...

Pronunciation

Hmm. I thought it was pronounced with an Italian-style "gn" -- like "ny".
