[META] Compile the "Ultimate Lie" Here

From the beginning, we have lied. We lied to Dana about simply being
individuals from all walks of life who are just interested in helping her.
Ofcourse we did want to help but more importantly we wanted to play
a kick-ass ARG that seemed to be set in the Halo universe.

We've been lying to the Sleeping Princess in the very same way and
since the very first axon call was answered, we've been lying to Melissa.

Now that we've had all this practice our biggest challenge awaits!!!

I have no doubt that we will find the name of SP and in doing so help
her to get back into the thick of things. At that point one very large
problem exists. If she desires retribution, how do we protect weephun?

I suggest that we quickly come up with the most believable lie with as
many corrabitive accounts that we can and have...
ALL OF US STICK TO IT.

Even if you have a ridiculous idea, throw it out there, we might just be
able to form it into something believable. Let us begin.

Whatever we come up with, it needs to follow the KISS rule. (Keep It Simple Stupid!)

... Or we could just tell the truth... What ever that is...

I'm also concerned about protecting the "crew" from Melissa should she realise what's going on. Particularly those of them who were also on friendly terms with the SP. (Shad0, for instance, who was mentioned by name by the Sleeping Princess on the 404 page which has now been retaken by Melissa, and XNBomb who has been mentioned by Dana on her blog... Which Melissa may or may not be aware of. Both of these guys were friendly with an enemy of Melissa, and are now members of her trusted "crew".)

If we're going to figure out how to protect people from these two entities, we need to spec on how they might actually be in danger.

Dana has protected herself just by being away from her web cam. (So stay away from those!)

What exactly can they do outside the confines of the ILB server(s)?

Could the SP really do anything to Weephun apart from sending nasty emails?

Can Melissa do anything other then make seemingly empty threats while calling at inappropriate times? (Which she does anyway even if she likes us so what's the difference really?)

What can they do really? This stuff we need to figure out as well.

Well, one thing that either or both entities could do is withold their trust.
As a consequence of the recent events, SP could not only withold her trust
from weephun but from all of us. That needs to be avoided. Will rescueing
her be enough to do that?

I think she'll be so relieved to be free and able to communicate again that we'll probably get something from her that will enable us to regain her trust.

I'd be very interested in seeing this kind of plan come to fruition. And, unfortunately, until it does, I am definitely not going to be doing anything to help the SP get loose again.

Heck, Dana ran to China when an AI got mad at her, where am I supposed to go? [/humor]

Could we claim that weephun knew we would be able to get her back, and that he was just doing it to get on the inside?

Barring that, running to China and meeting up with Dana doesn't seem like a bad idea to me.

My guess is that Melissa will be a lot more cooperative if we tell her that whatever we're doing is to "seek and behold" the Truth. Sure, we re-released the SP, but that's because it'll help us find the truth. How can she get mad at her crew for pursuing their objective?

As for the SP... we may need to throw weephun to the wolves, so to speak (sorry, weephun!). From a [META] standpoint, he did a bang-up job of advancing the plot, but in-game he's pretty decisively sided with Melissa against the SP--the SP has no reason to trust him again. So it might work better if our communication to the SP stressed (or even exaggerated) the backlash against weephun and made him look like an isolated case. That way, the SP might at least work her way back to trusting the rest of us.

I guess weephun himself needs to move someplace where there are no internet connections for a hundred miles in any direction. You knew the job was dangerous when you took it! Wink

Boy, if that ends up being the solution, I think I'd have to do everything I could to prevent her escape again. Brainstorm guys, find a way to get her back w/out me taking a trip to the antarctic Laughing

Don't forget ockam's razor... the most simple solution is usually the correct one.

A computer AI would most likely believe such a solution - which could lead it down a path that we don't want it to go - one of not believeing us and then lying to us in turn as revenge. Melissa seems rather spiteful - I'd have to agree that Weephun would probably have to be isolated as single case when the SP askes what happened...

Other wise we could ALL fall into both their badbooks. Lying to SP and Melissa...

I would go with the "Deny, Deny, Deny" scenario.

As of now, weephun has done "more" for Melissa than the SP. Should SP become free that doesn't necessarily mean that weephun "betrayed" her in order for that to happen.

Plus, I think it would be interesting if SP became free and weephun were one of the few Melissa could trust in the game.

I'm not saying that there should be a split of "sides", but it is more important that the game progresses, and I think ensuring weephun is protected by keeping him in line with The Queen's plan will be the safest bet.

I have to say, when I heard the sound bite of Weephun telling Melissa that the SP lived on the 404 page I was surprised that this was the bit of information that got her caught.

I was never of the impression that the Princess actually lived on the 404 page. For some reason, I figured she just went there to leave us messages, I just sort of pictured her always on the move through out the castle. (She had the 404 page, and the "pantry", and all of the "rooms" that she created for us to find after solving her riddles.... Plenty of places to be other then there, the way I look at it.)

Certainly something like that could be used as an explanation, and it could probably also be said that he simply thought the SP to sneaky, fast, and clever to actually be caught by Melissa.

I don't think Weephun needs to go anywhere. The SP said she was going to be more careful from now on... Not that she was going to wreck bloody vengeance.

Well, really, those other pages are altered 404 pages. At least, that's the way I interpreted it.

The Princess may've gotten sloppy, she may've gotten slow.

Melissa may also have just needed an edge. She does seem much more powerful then the Princess. Probably because she got to "wet" Dana's system long before the Princess was able to break free.

Run, weephun. Run for your life. I'd really hate to be you when a purple hologram the size of a GI Joe walks through your door and bristles with the anger and might of three little girls. You'd best keep a magnet handy. Smile
[/HUMOR]

We can always saw it wasn't weephun, but another forumer that looked just like him.
