Hmm, that's odd... In this version of Marcus' MetaDex profile, instead of "Favorite Song: Beatles - When I'm 64," It says this:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Favorite Movie: Tunnel Vision (1995)

Any significance, mayhaps?

I was just looking that one up on IMDB. Looks like a movie that didn't do so hot.

The quote is Aldous Huxley, natch.

Didn't Beth's site contain a Huxley quote in the original game?

Yeah, and the binary on the desktop image for Metacortechs was from Brave New World. Smile

a great idea

hi. i emailed krystyn on this maybe a week ago because i think the metacortex game was wildly compelling and deserving of tribute.

have folks thought to look for other bio's in the metadex interface? i can't remember anyone else's initials.

Just a note...

For those who were curious:

The number four in Japanese is "shi", which translates to "death". As a result, the number four is avoided by some superstitious people in Japan.

So the counting sequence one, two, san, death goes English, English, Japanese, Japanese translated to English.

Fun!

Slightly confused. The login form on mlo's metadex is evaluated by "index.html"...does that mean that it's not actually doing anything? I mean, html pages can't actually handle passwords and such, it needs to be some sort of script, doesn't it? I have only a very tiny idea of what I'm talking about, so someone please correct me.

I'd been assuming that we need to log in, but I guess there's no reason for that to be true. Besides, you know, the very tempting login box. It's hard to resist a nice login box.

Also, "note to self: buy better sunscreen" is sort of the same thing as saying "I'm not 64," isn't it? In Wongmospeak, anyway? Er, yes, and that's as far as I got. Ooh, and Ormond is all 65 now. Aww. I guess that's why he had to change his password.

Nope.. HTML pages can hold PHP as well as .jchillerup or .omnie files can. It's a matter of the settings of your webserver.

And though the webserver is set to it's default, a plain HTML file CAN be the "host" of passwords, as long as there is an actual PHP check. Look for ACTION in the form tag. That's the page, which actually verifies the password.

Ok, thanks, never mind then. Good to know. (note the form action tag is set to "index.html," which is why I was asking)

Well there's a new hint:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
New Favorite Song: Wheatstone Bridge - Application 3.1

I'm assuming that since it should have been solvable w/o this it has to tie into his fave movie.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
There is a character in Tunnel Vision named Kelly Wheatstone, played by Patsy Kensit.

So is Ormond a Patsy?

And then there's the possibility of Whetstone Cipher (but I won't even pretend I have a clue how or where that would be applicable, much less how to actually accomplish it).
