I'll start out by saying this is waaaay out there but interesting nonetheless.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
If you take MLO and encipher it using Cipherlerk's Whetstone Cipher Machine, use "Tunnelvision" as the key and scramble the alphabet by "Transposition".....it enciphers to XXI.

The coincidental, but interesting part, is that Patsy Kensit (Kelly Wheatstone in Tunnel Vision) also played the lead in a movie called "Twenty-One".

Another useless but interesting bit:

Tunnel Vision being the loss of peripheral vision, seeing only straight down the middle.

Patsy Kensit - Kelly Wheatstone in Tunnel Vision
PATS YKE NSIT
KEY

Totally useless I know, been staring at it too long.

Lyrics to the song Application 3.1 by Wheatstone bridge

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
There is nothing wrong with your television set. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are controlling transmission. If we wish to make it louder, we will bring up the volume. If we wish to make it softer, we will tune it to a whisper. We will control the horizontal. We will control the vertical. We can roll the image; make it flutter. We can change the focus to a soft blur or sharpen it to crystal clarity. For the next hour, sit quietly and we will control all that you see and hear. We repeat: there is nothing wrong with your television set. You are about to participate in a great adventure. You are about to experience the awe and mystery which reaches from the inner mind to the outer limits.

this is also the introduction to the Outer Limits TV show

Ach, but all that means we still don't have the password, right?

But we're being positive about it!

Outer limits = what you don't see with Tunnel Vision, seems to be a bit of a theme here. Not that I know what to do with it.

thoughts

OK first of all I've spent far too much time looking at this. I've become a little obsessed. There, I've said it.

Thoughts (no need for spoiler tags since I didn't actually figure anything out Confused ) :

- Charles Wheatstone invented the Playfair Cipher, one of the most widely known pre-Modern era ciphers, and the first digraph substitution cipher. An online Playfair encoder is here
- Now that I'm thinking about it, the Wheatstone connection between the two is tenuous, as Caterpillar said, it was supposed to be solvable without the second clue. Were we initially supposed to guess that we were looking for the movie's main characters' last name?
- Tunnel Vision happens to be the name of VPN software (now defunct) that uses Blowfish as its' encryption algorithm. Yeah I know, it's doubtful we're supposed to encrypt 'mlo' using Blowfish, but I figured maybe this would jar someone's brain cells a bit.

And no, krystyn, we still don't have the password. Razz

Hee, mlo sure is fickle.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Main character = Justin Playfair, so I guess we're dealing with the Playfair cipher bagsbee mentioned? Time for plugging in keys!
