Last time the answer was "MLO" encoded in base64, so perhaps we're encoding mlo again. No guarantee of that, though. Potential clues for the keyword (or encoding word, whichever):
  • Note to self: buy better sunscreen. ...Something to do with sunscreen or his age? I'd guess it may be connected to Wongmo, but Ormond didn't have any connection with him at all, did he?
  • Sad Ormond picture. I've no idea how this could be a clue, but it is different, and therefore suspicious, I guess. Hee. Poor sad Marcus.
  • The movies/song. Dunno what it would be, as this last update seems to have killed the nice vision/periphery theme they had going there. But there's a lot of data.
  • Numbers? The movies have years next to them. Is this strange? It struck me as strange and not strictly necessary unless they meant something. Although I guess the year for Tunnel Vision was needed to distinguish it from the other one that came out in the 70s. Re: numbers, there's also 3.1 in the song. Yeah, this is fairly stretchy.

The only Wongmo/MLO connection was via Wongmo's Mailbag:

Q: Wongmo--are you 64?

A: No. Note to self: Buy better sunscreen.

That was when players were trying anything they could think of, no matter what the stretch of logic, to get info out of Wongmo about other characters.

Yep, I got it too.

Now...what's it mean?

I'm leaving for 8 days on Saturday morning, so we need to solve this by tomorrow at 5 pm eastern. Very Happy

edit: Is the 1971 possibly relevant in the movie title?

did anyone else notice the difference between the old metadex Marcus pic from the original game and the new mlormund.jpg file. He is not quite as happy.. Easter egg or clue?

Yeah, Marcus is looking much more grim these days. Compare Omnie's screen cap a few pages back with the pic on the currently "active" updated bio page.

Googling "bon appetit" "they might be giants" gives this (probably irrelevant) IMDB page:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I thought this might be a clue when i read it (as in using Marcus) but countless unviable tries later I gave up on the thought.

Now I see the page is indeed updated to read:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Name: MARCUS Ormond

Okay so it turns out:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I did indeed try this but was plugging mlo instead of MLO

Using Marcus as key (PlayFair) turns MLO into UGPW

Might I take a moment to suggest to you forum admin goon types that, given the unwieldiness of this single-subject thread, now might be a good time to dust the old Metacortechs forum off and take it out of mothballs so as to use in the solving of this here puzzle thingy? It looks like a lot of work has been put into this "redux", and that it might actually be a little bit bigger of a story than just a mere Timewaster. Very Happy

I'm just sayin'.

Well, since the header pages are named in the form http://www.lessonstolearn.net/anomaly#.html, I gave http://www.lessonstolearn.net/anomaly4.html a shot. Heh. Wink

The only thing I noticed was that the second "event" took place 45 days after the first and the third 90 days after the second.....

So I was thinking the fourth "event" might take place 180 days after the third......which I "think" (just did it in my head) would be April 30th 2004.

Oh wow.
And to think, just yesterday Metacortechs just randomly leapt into my brain. (I was a lurker through the first Metacortechs)

Which wouldn't make much sense seeing as the email was dated 10/01/04. It's gotta be this october sometime.

I'll think some more on it after I finish my stupid history homework.

Wow! Metacortechs deja vu all over again.. reminds me of the good old days when we didn't chase payphones..

Anyway..

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

2003-06-19 to 2003-08-03 is 45 days..

Going with 45 day increments from 2003-06-19 until this month (45 x 8 = 360) gives us a 360 day difference on 2004-10-26

Now doing the same thing for lat and long..

Latitude: difference between 69.3833 and 61.8778 = 7.5055
Longitude: diff between 178.4167 and -162.0811 = 19.5

Repeating 8 times gives us a difference of 60.044 and 156, which is -13.5079:34.2111 Right in the middle of malawi..

How ever the numbers aren't accurate because they don't even hold for the second set we're given in USA, there's a slight margin of error or I haven't used the correct numbers.. anyway, going a little bit south of malawi we get..

http://www.lessonstolearn.net/2004-10-26-Mozambique.html

Which then leads to:

Whew!
