I'm back in town and sadly found no fun emails...sadness and sorrow!

So, puzzle hat on...keeping in mind that I honestly can't solve half of the puzzles I've created myself, so this could get REALLY funny...

(and just in case this will amuse the ghostly ones, I spent over an hour today wading through my trash folder and a week's worth of spam mail looking for these mystery messages...learning all about body parts that can be enhanced or diminished through the use of amusingly named pills, young ladies and lads who would like to be my friend, and just how much political candidates would like me to vote for them...all to no avail. You are cruel cruel ghosts!)

Well, the upper case HEX codes are operators and equals signs, or numbers.

so these lines here:
Code:
(random): 7a 2B 2b 2B 1c 2D 4d 3D 31 31 32 35
(texel):  2a 2D 5b 2B 8c 2B 4d 3D 32 32 31 31
(caesar): 4a 2B 8b 2D 6c 2B 3d 3D 31 32 34 38
(mello):  6a 2D 5b 2D 2c 2B 1d 3D 35 34 37

become:

Code:
(random): 7a + 2b + 1c - 4d = 1125
(texel):  2a - 5b + 8c + 4d = 2211
(caesar): 4a + 8b - 6c + 3d = 1248
(mello):  6a - 5b - 2c + 1d = 547

Looks like some "basic" algebra now...

Going here:
http://www.1728.com/unknwn4.htm

gives
a = 80.20679886685552
b = -51.98016997167139
c = 160.45325779036827
d = 126.76487252124646

I MUST have done SOMETHING wrong. Doesn't look like much to me.

Ah, good ol' simultaneous equations:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
a=217
b=115
c=192
d=204

With the numbers coming out so even and the fact that all of the equations just happen to be in their simplest form, leads me to beleve that this is indeed what we've been looking for.

This could be a form of key escrow. They could have sent out 5 equations, as long as we found four of them they can solve it. In this way, you can keep keys secret even while sharing them with someone. If you have a set of related equations with N variables, you must have at least N equations in order to solve it. If I had a problem with just A and B, and gave 3 equations out to 3 people, if any two of them got together they could solve it.

It's a good method of redundancy. I wonder if that's what happened.

On the right side of the picture -- are those, wingdings? They're so low rez though it's hard to make out what they are.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

The wingdings along the right-hand side are from the original image for the Metacortechs game. The quote appears to be identical, except that some of the symbols are highlighted.

Check the next spoiler if you wanna know what the highlighted letters say.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
"lessons to learn"

If I remember correctly

I may be mistaken, but I believe the quote was from Alice in Wonderland and the whole thing read:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Always to have lessons to learn

Yes, that's what the whole quote is on the right. The highlighted letters are what krystyn said, however.

I believe this is the correct text that flashes--hard to read in blown up screen caps:

First:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
[logging user info
{this.x;this.y}=bw=(x,y)bw_moveBy{x,y)]

Then:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
this=(bw.Q1||bw.defined=(1.5.0.5){-1.0))?this.css.is:your.one;
this=(bw.nq||bw.undefined)? this.css.left.this.world.in.pain;

this=(bw.Q2||bw.defined=(-0.5,0.5){0.1))?this.css.is:your.two;
this=bw.Q3||bw.defined=(-0.5, -1.5){-1.1))?this.css.is:your.san;

this=(bw.Q4||bw.defined=(0.5, -1.5){0.1))?this.css.is:your.death;
{this.cxl.visibility="dreamlinestate"identity}

Correct if necessary.

Using /dreamlinestate/ goes to

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
a 404 page with a broken image link that says "HAVE YOU SEEN IT? Keep it to yourself."

Then again, you get the same thing when you try /monkeylove/ so maybe /dreamlinestate/ is irrelevant.
