Mmmmmm. Foot.

Whoever's behind this must really hate my guts.

I think if we chatter enough and get this thread to thirty pages, we will begin to heal the wound of the Oct. 1st image. Assuaging grief through Schadenfreude might just be part of the process for this ... Wink

I just learned a new word. And, (muahaha *ahem*, excuse me, bit of a cough, seem to be coming down with something) yes. Although, with some wounds... Mr. Green

Received this email this morning:

Quote:
Mr. Peters,

We've had our eye on you for some time now. It seems that you have been living two lives. In one life, you are Steve Peters, respectable entrepreneur in the multimedia production business. You have a social security number, you pay your taxes, and you help your landlady carry out her garbage. The other life is lived in computers where you go by the alias vpisteve, and are guilty of virtually every alternate reality crime we have a law for, including the promotion of the genre, and the formation and maintenance of a network designed to inform more people about the nature and existence of these so-called realities. One of these lives has a future. One of them does not.

I'm going to be as forthcoming as I can be, Mr. Peters. You are reading this email because we need your help. We know that you have been contacted by a certain individual. A man who calls himself Caesar. Whatever you think you know about this man is irrelevant to the fact that he is wanted for possessing certain data that is extremely dangerous. Because he possesses this data, he is considered by many authorities to be the most dangerous man alive. We know that Caesar and his colleagues have sent messages that might allow you and others like you to find this data yourselves, although some of it is so exceedingly subtle that your human mind may fail to recognize its significance. Nonetheless, following the trail left by Caesar and his colleagues is likely to cause yourself and others to remember some things that would be extremely hazardous to your well-being. It might result in your recalling events from some time ago that would once again lead you to question the nature o! f your reality.
My colleagues believe that I am wasting my time with you, but I believe you want to do the right thing. It is obvious that you are an intelligent man, Mr. Peters, and that you are interested in the future. That is why I believe you are ready to put your past mistakes behind you and get on with your life. We are willing to wipe the slate clean, to give you a fresh start, and all we are asking in return is your cooperation in bringing a fugitive to justice. However, we are concerned you may choose not to cooperate. We know that you have in your possession a large list of contacts that have subscribed to your network because they are interested in these matters. We are troubled by the possibility of you informing these people of Caesar's recent foray into the network, and the data he has left for them to find. We have projected that if you should do this, the probability of our containing this data would be substantially decreased, and many more people will recall the exploits ! of Caesar and his colleagues. We would prefer that these events remain forgotten.

You have a choice, Mr. Peters. You can do the right thing and help us apprehend Caesar by telling no one what you know. Or, you can defy us, spread the word to your contacts, and invite what I can only describe as the direst consequences to befall yourself and others who learn more of these events. What's it going to be, Mr. Peters?

So, let me get this straight. Project MU: Part Two? I don't know if my reality can take the strain. I just have too many real life things that will have to take a back seat to all of this.

Here's a really, really short version.

We (the PMs of Project_Mu aka "the Metacortex game" from last year) started getting different e-mails on October 1 (coincidentally the date Mu went live last year) from some of the characters we had left alive but hidden within a "safe zone" at the end of the game. Each e-mail had numbers in the subject line.

(edited to add: We appear to be the *only* people who got these e-mails...apparently the characters overestimated our brain power, heh...and we were eventually "nudged" towards posting a thread here)

After much manipulating, the numbers formed a URL, which contained an image from our game with a certain phrase highlighted, "lessons to learn," and a riddle.

The answer led to lessonstolearn.net and we're finding random bits of puzzles and solves there.

For me, I think I'd be helped by a little more "story" to frame the puzzles than what Steve got today, but maybe that means more story is coming.

It's more like a tribute, albeit a really freaking cool and fun one! Very Happy

Oh, dude, I was playing with anagrams a bit, and I really wanted there to be a 'Caesar's Cologne,' but there weren't enough C's, for example.

Hey, i just noticed something. There has been a logo for underscore hoting on all the ingame sites. I just thought that the PMs used the same host for all their sites. However, i just tried cliking on the logo and got a mesage that the site doesn't exist. Is there just an error in the link?

No, it just links to underscorehosting.com, like the "official" in-game sites linked to. Except that it isn't up anymore, what with the game being over. Seems right to me - stubbornly authentic-ish, if that makes any sense. Does that make any sense?

[edit - no point in double-posting:]

It seems that the metadex in the ARGN MU graveyard isn't working. Crying or Very sad Fear not, for I happen to have a screenshot of MLO's original metadex profile (from back when I was arranging all this as a narrative...I have lots of random screenshots). Pic attached. Why is sad!Marcus cracking me up? Heehee. The "buy better sunscreen" was from Wongmo, right? Someone asked him if he was 64? Heh, how long did it take us (using that "us" very loosely) to solve that thing? I think I need some reassurance now that there's no such thing as base1995.
