K, so I get he's trying to fix himself, failing, and then looking for a particular image with archival data? That's just on a quick pass-through, so I have missed any nuances ...

Annnnd now I can't stop giggling. <3
[edit] Searching for "krystynsleepdeprivation" doesn't seem to actually turn anything up on the forums, so I'll just add for the non-MU players that this was sort of a thing that we used as a scapegoat for all possible woes ever. I'm pretty sure it came about on one of those nights when krystyn was torturing us with hints like "look at the page!!!" so it's really quite justified.
*ahem* Hi, krystyn!

Arrgh!
Nearly posted this in main forum - well, I did, then deleted it when when I found this!
Anyway, might as well post this for people who like the links (and not to waste my hard work

which looks similar, but gives...

It must be krystynsleepdeprivation, obviously!!
(btw, I am totally giggling, too)
(also, I tried saving and re-naming the data.jpg as a txt file, and got gibberish. so I saved you the trouble!)

What if the gibberish you got by translating data.jpg to a text file was readable when you use some sort of a cipher with key.dat as the key?
New to all this, wandered over from the Apiary.

Hmm - note to self - post things that didn't work...
Yeah, I tried that too, also tried to open key.dat in notepad & word - both giving...
t
Any bells?
Also tried combinations of extra letters r,s and n as .html but no luck.
Also, what does this version of the three have to offer?
Anyway, I'm sure by the time I get in at 8 GMT tomorrow you will all have solved it!
Good luck!
Edit: L_K - seems like it really is genuine gibberish, if that can exist.
Hmm, that does make me think that this could be revenge on Krystyn. What if there is no solve? That WOULD be funny. Perhaps we should leave this one to you, Krystyn... I'm sure there is though - its probably ON THE PAGE!

Ok here are my thoughts on this.. (in a nutshell: I don't know how to solve this!)
What we are dealing with here seems to be encryption and not steg. That, I gatehered from the AI Dude's log which specifically mentions encryption in the JPEG, and the fact that we have the data and a key.
The puzzle here is to find the encryption method used. My intial guess is that it is not done with a program, but something more subtle that can be solved by hand, hence the small data file and key.
The keys is exactly 16 bytes, so that's a 128 bit key. The data itself is exactly 900 bytes, and I can't figure out how they got an exactly round figure.. but I'm sure these numbers hold the key (pardon the pun) to solving it..
What I did try was to work on it on byte level. Forget about opening things as text files, this is done bit-by-bit. I tried to XOR the key with the data part of the JPEG file but didn't get anything. Another thing I noticed is that the JPEG might not conform to standards as there were multiple DCT tables and multiple Huffman frames, or something like that..
The problem is college was a long time ago and I forgot everything I learned about encryption...
So to sum it up, I have no idea how to solve this But I hope my ramblings will help someone else think of something!

I did a search on Err239, which is the status he recieves back whenever he tries to run an operation, trying to see if it would give a clue about what kind of program this is encrypted with. No luck.
Edit: Looking back on the previous logs, that was always the status. Kinda weird.

not sure if this is a mistake or a clue, but the line that begins <method="JPEG compression"...> seems to be malformed XML; there should be a tag name before they start going into properties, i.e. <TAGNAME method="JPEG compression"...>
