Mekiwi- this spec has support as far as I can tell, its not that I just think it or want it to be true, the voices don't line up. I listened to each at least 3 times together. If you listen to big_dog and then DTF, you hear the voices of J^2 are not the same (please go listen to se if YOU hear the same thing)
This leads me to believe J^2 is not dead.

Papamarx- Go listen to the wav's and tell me there is nothing to base the spec on. When I first heard it I was sure to, but upon relistining to the wavs I dont think so anymore.

I was under the impression the voice change was due to the emotional trauma... or to add emotional effect. (they should have warned the voice actors not to overact, since their audience reads into things too much)

I'm just saying that all people are basing this SPEC on is that fact the j2 sounded distressed on the axon... he just fell through the ceiling!!!

It just doesn't hold any water.

I didn't mean to upset you, so if I did I apologize. That being said, I have listened to the WAVs many many times and though the voices do indeed sound different, that alone is not enough to convince me it wasn't JJ. For one thing, those "nets" sounded VERY powerful. Get hit with a couple of those and you're probably a bit worse for wear and most likely not going to sound the same as you're huffing and puffing. There's probably a lot of stress involved with seeing your daughter tied up and tortured, too, and that can change people. All I'm saying is, the differences in voice aren't significant enough for me to believe this spec. Sorry.

Here's the thing...the guy who was shot in the sound clips...that WAS JJ. Otherwise, Jan wouldn't have screamed "DADDY!!" Durga IS distracted...but from what I hear in the clip, I see the scene going like this:

JJ gets shot, somewhere nonvital, tries to get up, then gets shot somewhere vital (head).

There's definitely some squishing in between the gunshots...

My thoughts exactly. Spartan or not, a headshot'll do it.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I agree. I think the change in voice is due to the clip we're missing, which comes between drop_the_floor and bigger_dog. Looking at the remaining clip titles, the most likely candidate seems to be ...uhh...oh, crud...

...beg_for_death.

Sad

There's a lot of thudding too. I think Thin kicks him a few times to be sure, or he spasms around....

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Which makes me think he's an advanced clone... After all, spasming like that won't happen til rigor mortis sets in. Unless you were a clone, going into one of the spasms dicussed in another axon...

In the books, Chief Mendez leaves John-117 and the rest of the Spartan-IIs to start training the next batch of Spartan-IIs. Still the S-2 program, just another batch of kids. Whose to say there wasn't a 3rd or 4th batch?

It's also eluded to in the books that John's class are the only ones that ever made it - it makes sense, considering that right after John's class "graduated" the covenant attacked for the first time and all resources went to stopping them, not planning for the future.

I think it's safe to say that only Spartan-II's that existed are the ones from John's class - nothing Ackerson or Halsey ever says indicates they trained another class.

As I stated earlier in the thread, I think [Spec] that makes sense right now is that Yasmine is a Spartan-III, and sense we don't know anything about them it works out even better.

Why would they develop a brand NEW SPARTAN program when the S-II program was so effective? If the government has the money to develop an S-III program, then why not just keep funding the S-II program, especially since we KNOW that the second class was already lined up and ready to be trained?

I'll give you that, nothing is ever said of what happened to any of the other "classes". Still, Spartan-III seems a big leap for me... who knows, you're probably right.

[OT] - Hey Shad0! Don't you think you're

overdoing it a bit with the spoiler thing?! Heh.

Spartan III was a rival program to Halsey's Spartan II program.

Becasue Col Ackerson thinks they're freaks and unnatural. It's in the books, espcially in First STrike. Also, the only time a 3rd class is mentioned is when Mendez is seeing John for the last time - that's hardly proof another class was ready to be trained, or that they had even chosen anyone to kidnap yet.

MeKiwi: Yeah I know, Spartan-III seems like a leap, but it's the only thing that even remotely makes sense unless they throw a curveball about AI's in there (btw the advanced AI theory doesn't hold up if you consider Cortana is the best and brightest and is still destined to die in 7 years).
