Which is here, by the way. Thanks, aliendial!

(I'm also trying to keep up in the Fireflies Wiki.)

here is an idea:

Becuase the cordination of having everyone using the same Passphrase (and i doubt that will actualy be allowed anyways)... why not have a phone # set up where once someone gets is confermed, they will call the number (using the same payphone they just sent the passphrase on) and the person on the other end can then post the phrase on the Announcement... which then could be relayed to the people on the field.

New Passphrase --> board member --> Axon hunter

This could be done in a matter of a minute if done correctly.

Can anyone act as central coordinator for receiving PHONE CALLS from the people at the phones who give the relay codes? I would volunteer but am at work and cannot. Sad Sad Sad

What I'm thinking is that for most people it takes too long to get back from the phone booth and report the relay code. So if someone could act as central reporter and offer up their phone number here on the board, then whenever a seeker goes to answer the phone, immediately after hanging up s/he can call the central reporter and give the time and the new relay code. The central reporter could then post it immediately and give other seekers more of a chance to have the code in time.

Anyone willing?

EDIT: Aww man, beat me to it PDK. Heheh. My sentiments exactly!

As a reward for your selflessness, if I should happen to get another live call today -- which I won't, by the way Mr. Green -- I will give Melissa your number to call on future Tuesdays.

luckily most cellphone plans include nation-wide long distance, so it shouldn't be a problem

dude! take your number down and have them pm, email, or IRC you instead!

or maybe AlienDial could set up the axon reporting toll free number so that it plays a recording of the relays?

pDK if that's a phone you're going to keep for a while you may want to take it down. I've got a phone I'll only be keeping for a month or so more and would be willing to use it if you'd like.

Regardless thanks for the offer, that's awesome.

relay complete

Relay code...

"I love Haiku, so I write it."

So, go go go!

Relay!
That!
Code!

Done.

I think it's pretty cool that you and I are linked once again, as we were both mentioned on SP's 404 page...

Anyway, here's my story:

So... I answer the phone... BAD connection. Plus it's in a Mall's airlock doors, so it's constantly changing pressure and yappy brats are coming and going.
It's very quiet on the other end of the line.

I get the "what must we reveal?" Question
Couldn't really tell if it was live or not at this point.
I answer "The Truth" sort of stumbly. I'm wishing I had a recording rig.
She says "That's right." I'm in.
She tells me that she needs to complete a relay, and did I have that code?
I said I have two, one is "I'm feeling very..." Ermac's quote.
She tells me that that code had "expired," what is the second code?

I tell her girlinfocus' "I love Haiku, so I write it."

(I then think to myself that it's pretty cool that I'm relaying "HitsHerMark's" code since she and I were singled out by the Sleeping Princess on a 404 page.
Melissa then asks me for my nickname, and why I'm called that.
"wha?! " I'm stuck for something... my nick IS MrBeefy, but I gave that to her as my name... should I give her my real name as my nick? That doesn't make sense.

Quickly I tell her "DrUnnicely" and it's "From not necessarilty treating people too well online." (which is a lie. Razz )
I decided against telling her that it's really an anagram for something else... (which I now regret)

She asks: "What is online?'?

I explain to her (poorly) that it's all the unsecure channels.
She tells me it's important for us to monitor them

"Yeah, you can't be too careful"

She goes through the "release form..."

And then starts to tell me, it's very important...
And then I can't hear a thing.
It sounded like she may have been whispering to keep confidence.
I could hear her talking, but not what she was saying.

I didn't want to interrupt her, so I waited for her to finish: "I really didn't get that, unfortunately."

long pause.

"Is it possible to repeat that?"

Brave soul

pDK, you're a first-class human being.

SuperJerms, the whole point of having someone on a phone rather than using a medium like PM, irc, or email is that people can't always get to their computers right after going to an axon. We need something that's immediate. If we're keeping pDK updated immediately by phone with the most recent passphrases, we won't have a time lapse that will strand people at their axons with expired passphrases.

Little to late for that now... everyone will need to remove it from their quotes...

so if you guys want to do that... that would be great (i was expecting to remove it once this phase was over... but meh... i could get a new number if needed... i work for Verizon anyways Wink ).

I was just thinking about something like this. We could create a general beekeepers AIM, YAHOO, or ICQ account that people can access using a lot of the current cell phones. I just upgraded the software in my phone, and now I have all of these IM services. As long as that person is logged into this service on his/her phone, we could relay the information.

Of course, we wouldn't want to use this account for general discussion, but use it for time-critical information like these codes.

Anyhow, this may not work, but I wanted to throw out the idea.
