I'd like to note that the background is of a penny and I from the penny's url I found the page http://www.theunraveling.com/mankind/index.html but it is blank. Not missing, but blank.

Isn't the puzzle found
Here
similar to a crossword. Could this be the solution for it?

Not sure if this will be much help at this point (I just got home and found this puzzle well on the way towards solve-dom), but I hacked up the HTML to make it obvious which letters must be moused-over to get clues (they are in red). It makes it easier to find them, but there might also be some significance to the letters themselves (or their positions). Anyways, here it is...

That would be a nice thought, but we have no indications of any connection between Seventh Sons and The Unraveling (yet).

I think that these 'answers' are needed for either the first letter of the first word, or the first letter of the second word.

GB indirectly pointed out that "Sodium Carbonate" should be "Soda Ash"

I edited my other post, which is located here:

Taking the answers from clue pairs in order as given by the text on mankind.html. Last word on first answer, first word on second answer:

Code:
digital camera
              >  camera angle
angle bracket

burt reynolds
              >  reynolds number (it's a real term!)
number one

sub zero
              >  zero in
in vitro

stage left
              >  left over
over react

ice cream
              >  cream soda
soda ash

grey skull
              >  skull cap
cap size

sing sing
              >  sing along
along side

high school
              >  school yard
yard arm

prussian blue
              >  blue chip
chip set

salt water
              >  water log
log rolling

jet ski
              >  ski lift
lift off

u turn
              >  turn over
over bite

Have fun! Very Happy

EDIT: ElGamer figured out that the adjacent/hypotenuse clue = along side. edited above to reflect that...

Here are all of the new two word combination, and what they came from.
This was found by GB in the previous post, I just made it look a bit nicer, and included where they came from.
Also, there is a one word discription of the last pair of words, it may or may not be part of a puzzle.

The text on the page seems to be a clue about what we need to do...

Quote:

A kind man once told me that there are two sides to every coin. one part soft as a woman, t'other part a barbed hook.

Two clues for each pair of words. One at face value, the other turned on its head.

Quote:

I was begotten on a thin coin's edge.

Taking two paired answers produces a new answer pair that is between them.

Quote:

That can't be so farfetched, can it? Oh Rumpelstiltskin, such a mysterious, mean-spirited papa thou wert!

But what does the rest of this mean? Rumplestiltskin could spin hay into gold. Perhaps we have to keep spinning through the process to get the solution?

Grumpyboy's layout gave me an idea... what if we have to continue combining words until we get down to a final combination? It almost works... 12 pairs down to 6 pairs, down to 3 pairs, resulting in 3 phrases.

Take for instance...

Code:

burt reynolds
              >  reynolds number (it's a real term!)
number one
                                   > number zero
sub zero
              >  zero in
in vitro

Interesting idea, eMouse, but I'm having trouble pairing up some of these answers. Here's what I got so far:

burt reynolds+number one=reynolds number
sub zero+In Vitro=zero in
=Number Zero=

digital camera +angle bracket=camera angle
stage left + over react = Left Over
=Angle Left=

ice cream + soda ash = cream soda
salt water + log rolling = water log
=soda water=

u turn + over bite = turn over
sing sing + along side = sing along
=over sing=

brute forcing the rest, the other pairs would be four of these:

cap school
cap blue
cap ski

yard skull
yard blue
yard ski

chip skull
chip school
chip ski

lift skull
lift school
lift blue

Ok, after a little googling on Rumpelstiltskin, I found a poem by Anne Sexton which seems related to the text on mankind.html, particularly the last stanza.

Quote:
When the dwarf returned
she called out:
Is your name by any chance Rumpelstiltskin?
He cried: The devil told you that!
He stamped his right foot into the ground
and sank in up to his waist.
Then he tore himself in two.
Somewhat like a split broiler.
He laid his two sides down on the floor,
one part soft as a woman,
one part a barbed hook,
one part papa,
one part Doppelganger.

Good job Dare.

I found a site with the actual story on it.

http://www.surlalunefairytales.com/rumpelstiltskin/index.html

It has some interesting interpretations of the story in the annotations.

Interesting. So comparing it to the mankind phrase...

Quote:
A kind man once told me that there are two sides to every coin. one part soft as a woman, t'other part a barbed hook. I was begotten on a thin coin's edge. That can't be so farfetched, can it? Oh Rumpelstiltskin, such a mysterious, mean-spirited papa thou wert!

So our mankind mentions the woman, hook and papa from the poem. Is Doppelganger supposed to be our clue since it's the only one not mentioned?

Doppelganger - A spiritual or ghostly double or counterpart; an apparitional double of a living person. A mirror image or double of a person

I emailed Ed about solving amazinggrace and the new page mankind.html. Here is his reply. It's not much use but included here for completeness sake:
Quote:
GB,

Fantastic! Good going. I'll take a look at the new one and see if I
can make, er, heads or tails of it. (Sorry, I couldn't help it, I had
to say it!)

Another thing that stands out is

Quote:
I was begotten on a thin coin's edge.

Interestingly, the word 'I' falls between a head an tail in the background. The other letters can be assigned to a head or a tail fairly easily.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Part 1:
On mankind.html, take the letters which you mouse over to get the clues "snfhigseunai". Now order them according to the linktext[#] in the html source.

For example:
- the letter that you mouse over for linktext[1]="An option for Snagglepuss<br>The direction of Waldorf's theatre box" is H
- the letter that you mouse over for linktext[2]="Go overboard, at times<br>This action will usually result in a second correction" is U

Doing all the letters gives "HUGSIFINSANE" or with spaces added "HUGS IF INSANE"

Part 2:
Do the same for the clues and answers to them.

answer to linktext[1] = stage left
answer to linktext[2] = over react

which we already know gives "left over"

The whole list ends up to be:

left over
blue chip
skull cap
camera angle
cream soda
zero in
turn over
reynolds number
sing along
ski lift
water log
school yard

Now take all the last letters of the 1st words and then all the 1st letters of the 2nd words. This gives "TELAMONSGIRLOCCASIONALLY" or "TELAMONS GIRL OCCASIONALLY".

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

So now we have two more clues: "Hugs, if insane" and "Telamon's girl, occasionally". Since I suck at crosswords (and to me these clues are like the ones you would see in crosswords), I asked dashcat for her help. She thinks they maybe cryptic crossword clues and "Hugs, if insane" maybe "gush" and "Telamon's girl, occasionally" could be "he is one" (Hesione being a wife of Telamon - one of the argonauts in greek mythology) but we don't know whether those are correct...

I figure once we have the 2 correct answers, that'll either be our next page name or they'll be clues to our next page name... Confused
