[SPEC] Dana's best move (and a META question)

If I were Dana I would...

1. I have been thinking about Dana's best move in this situation (broke, alone, foreign country and language, unbelievable tale, unable to use anything related to the internet or computer data base.)

I surprised myself when I decided her best move for getting help would be to join us in the chat room at #beekeepers. She would have to do this when Melissa is distracted by making phone calls to the crew members. And she would have to be very brief. She could risk a bit of time on the web if she were talking to the right people.

She knows about our chat room as she has posted it on her weblog. We are the only people who know and understand her rather outrageous story. We are the most resourceful people she knows. We may even have a few suggestions on how to best approach Miss Melissa that would benefit Dana.

She won't chat with us, of course, because dropping unannounced into a chat room is not what characters do. Or at least not what her character does.

Here the META question arises: if in "Real Life" a person would be expected to act a certain way, does the fact a character does not act in that way --because doing so would seem to destroy the curtain--make the game seem more like a game? That is, is this a circumstance in which TISNAG is hindered, rather than helped, by the curtain?

(I won't discuss that question here as I am sticking with my non- META discussion oath, which I don't think was broken by simply posing a question.)

2. Other options:

Her next best bet would be to do the following:

a. Find some American tourists who are returning home soon and get them to call her Mom and Aunt Margaret. (and anyone else she wants to get in touch with).

b. Find a job. In her shoes I would try to find some wealthy students, of whatever level, who need help with English tutoring. She can read and correct their work without having to know Japanese and if they are studying English they should be able to communicate with her. She may be able to find some use for her web skills, but only if she can do it very anonymously. She would know more about that than I do. Smile

c. Make friends. She needs to come up with a good story and stick to it as to why she is broke, alone and not communicating with her family and friends for help. Trying to explain ilovebees.com is not going to get her anywhere.

d. Get someone to help her get all the information she from ilovebees site in a form other than from the internet. The answer to how to deal with Melissa will be found there, if it is to be found anywhere. My only idea has been to call and email Melissa and tell her that Dana made a human error. Maybe someone can explain it to the Pious Flea in fleaspeak. Realistically, I think that it is going to take the Sleeping Princess to save Dana.
