[SPEC] Saving Dana

Taking a page from Frank Herbert's masterpice, Dune:

"He who can destroy a thing has power over it."

Melissa is out for Dana's blood, virtual or otherwise. She's been sending all her hate to Durga, and thus the both of them have become ruthless to their enemies.

Hmm...that's another interesting literary link. Read Ender's Game, by Orson Scott Card, and the title character expresses a similar sentiment: Harm your enemies to the point that they are not merely defeated, but are incapable of ever harming you again.

Anyway, my point.

Melissa loves the people she trusts. This trust is not easily garnered, but it is, eventually, through trials and tests of loyalty. She loves us, and in this time where she is limited to virtual actions, she *needs* us to effect change in the outside world.

One possible way to get Melissa off of Dana's back is to threaten her with abandonment. She may scoff at this at first, rant about how we are imposters or spies or some such, but if enough people told her, consistantly, that we'd abandon her if she didn't start behaving and acting slightly more rationally, it could cause her to change.

We are a crew, all of us. We are not her slaves, nor is she ours. We are a team, and as such, there is a bit of give and take. If this was posited to her....who knows?

Am I making any sense?

yeah it sounds like a good idea to me, but it could be a bit too radical and you may not get the full co-operation of the beekeeper community and that is what you'd need to get it to work...

I think it's worth a shot, BUT I don't think enough people will play along. Most people are just so exited that they have a live call that they will not attempt to go outside of the boundries set by Melissa.

Great quotes, bro, but I think the others are right - too many people will not agree. I can't believe people see things in such black and white as "good and evil" though.. (there are only infinite shades of grey..)

Well...

...why not someone pretend to be Dana on the next live call?

(It would work best if the pretender was female, natch ;)

While we might not be able to get Melissa to stop hunting Dana, couldn't we at least focus on the fact that Melissa is acting unstable? Perhaps try to get her to use her rational mind a little, and resist whatever changes have been made to her programming? Just indicate that she's acting differently than she once did, back on the Apocalypso before the crash. Have to be careful about offending her, though... she seems pretty touchy.
