Common theme is Odysseus and The Odyssey.
But now I'm stuck. (I think H __ __ is Hades but not positive).

Unfortunately, none of those worked as the next page on The Unraveling.
I tried odysseus, theodyssey, TrojanWar, Athena, Demodocus, Tiresias, Argos, Alcinous (and Alcinoos).

And now I really have to get back to work (shhh, I have been working on *this* for 2 hours).

Well this puzzle is looking seriously screwey.

It looks like the red ones are special - they don't actually come out of the sun. I counted it up, and there are 68 pairs in the sun, 78 pairs in the blanks. There are 10 red pairs. That seems to add up.

What doesn't add up is there are three pairs that are missing or incorrect. They don't exist in the sun (or enough of those pairs don't exist). That of course means there are also three unused pairs remaining. The 'wrong' pairs are marked blue, and with (!) below.

Quote:

TE LE MA CH US
NE ST OR
(OR) ES TE(!) S
C (AL) YP (SO)
LO TUS E AT ER S
H (AD) ES(!)
AE OL (US)
LE ST RY GO (NI) AN S
S CY LL A A ND CH (AR) YB DI S
W AN (DE) RI NG RO CK S
S IR EN S
C YC LO PS
NA US (IC) AA(!)
OX EN OF TH E S UN
CI RC E
E UM AE (US)
IT HA CA
PE NE LO PE

The leftover pairs are CA EU OT

There is AA at the top of the sun, but we are missing an ER in the sun to cover both Lotus eatERs, and wandeRIng rocks (good catch!).
And missing an ES.
If I take out the existing pairs preprinted, I have EU and OT left up in the sun.

I'm thinking that the pairs in the words that are not covered by sun pairs may suppose to be red in the words:

TE LE MA CH US
S CY LL A AND CH AR YB DI A

[Edit to fix my misspelling of wandering]

Actually, you've got an extra E in Wandering Rocks there. That one would be RI, if I'm reading this right.

Rechecked the website tonight, double checked my spelling, here is my final submission for the day: TE AA ES were used in the words and not enough were in the sun (so maybe the words using them were wrong). Left over were EU CA OT.

TE LE MA CH US
NE ST OR
OR ES TE S ??? ES and TE are two of the "extra" pairs, so maybe wrong - is there something that would fit _ _ _ _ _ _ S with OT and EU ?
C AL YP SO
LO TUS E AT ER S
H AD ES
AE OL US
LE ST RY GO NI AN S
S CY LL A A ND CH AR YB DI S
W AN DE RI NG RO CK S
S IR EN S
C YC LO PS
NA US IC AA ??? Maybe misspelled by PM (replace AA w/ CA)?
OX EN OF TH E S UN
CI RC E
E UM AE US
IT HA CA
PE NE LO PE
-------------------------------
If ORESTES is something else, using EU and OT, then there are no left over or extra pairs (assuming NAUSICAA was misspelled by the PM as NAUSICCA or NAUSSICA (which would make our red pairs wrong).

Red Pairs known: OR AL SO AD US NI AR DE IC ES US

And where do the purple letters fit (which were there before we got the blank words hint)?

omnia graeca mihi videntur

My friend says it translates to "They are seen by all my Greek(s)."

My newfound latin translating program gave me:

The Greek all are seen to me

I see, so the poem below is a hint to what sort of words we're supposed to decode. So something along the line of 'They are known/seen by all Greeks'.

I think now we just have to figure out what to do with the red letters.

Maybe something about oracles?

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
So at the bottom of the page, there are 17 pairs of letters given, 51 pairs non-red blanks and 10 pairs red blanks. Since there are 68 pairs of letters in the sun thing. Those 68 letters must contain the 17 given pairs of letters and the letters which are to be used for the 51 non-red pairs of blanks.

I redid the whole thing fill in the blanks thing just to be sure. And sure enough all the 68 pairs from the sun fit with nothing left over. Kudos to konamouse for recognizing that the list is from The Odyssey. (The main error in the list was the third item which should be PROTEUS. And in this case it's NAUSICCA not Nausicaa.) The _ _'s below are the red blanks on the page.

TE LE MA CH US
NE ST OR
_ _ OT EU S
C _ _ YP _ _
LO TU S E AT ER S
H _ _ ES
AE OL _ _
LE ST RY GO _ _ AN S
S CY LL A A ND CH _ _ YB DI S
W AN _ _ RI NG RO CK S
S IR EN S
C YC LO PS
NA US _ _ CA
OX EN OF TH E S UN
CI RC E
E UM AE _ _
IT HA CA
PE NE LO PE

So the missing letter (red blanks) are: PR AL SO AD US NI AR DE IC US

I don't why I immediately thought about Icarus but shuffling the letters around gave me "ICARUS DAEDALUS PRISON". In Greek mythology, Icarus and Daedalus were imprisoned in the Labyrinth by King Minos of Crete.

Gb, nice job at putting it all together and getting us to the next page and Kona, nice one on figuring out what the words were to begin with.

Yay, finally got an assist (and some day might have a solve). Sigh.
Time to mark some "solves"!
