More Trout for the Fire...

From Websters.

2. A proposition; an exposition; a discourse. [Obs.]

He made a long preposition and oration. --Fabyan.

-------

Also, preposition can mean:

To position or place in position in advance: artillery that was prepositioned at strategic points in the desert.

------

Also, it seems that some prepositions can ALSO be adverbs. Any language experts?

------

Also, does anyone have the complete list of prepositions? Could they (did they) post them in this "preposition"?

------
This message brought to you by the words "preposition" and "also"

So, Rani's title is "analyst".
I know this is a stretch, but analyst sounds like ___list. And we have a word list.
analyst.wav and voice_analyst.wav dont work.
Maybe something else with analyst might?

Great idea drizjr! I like the is a lot. We have "a list of prepositions"

Sounds a lot like "analyst_of_[prepositions]

I have tried substituting: troop_positions, positions, propositions, pre_positions, suppositions, precognitions, politicians, and others I can't remember without success, but this is the best new lead I've seen in a couple of days.

Someone brought up the between the lines thing again a couple of posts back.

Since there's 41 words - there's 20 above the word between and 20 below. I figured 20/20 as there's 20 between the lines and the word between.

As in 20/20 vision maybe.

I've been coupling that with my idea about the definitions of the words being just about everywhere around something else.

Stuff like "see_everything.wav" because everything sounds kind of like everywhere. But I'm still coming up blank.

I like that idea too, but I think it'd be the other way around. We have two things: something, an' a list (analyst, list of prepositions). The question is, what's the something? Assuming SOUNDS LIKE is the first part, what could it be in the same context or method as the list o' prepositions?

symetrical clues?

probably nuttin' but a lot of the new batch of file names for Oct 12 are symetrical like james_james one_point_one sweet_as_sweet chatter_to_chatter Do you think this could be a subtle clue for us that we're looking for something symetrical here? Even word_aworditsoundslike? or XXX_sounds_like_XXX Maybe it has to do with the complex prepositions that are not included in the list.

In the vein of "between is the middle word in the list": Perhaps the clue is 'sounds like between'? RhymeZone has a big ol' list of rhymes... Nothing yet, but I'll get back to you.

L' EDIT: I tried words and phrases that seemed to fit with a possible context of Rani's conversation with Herzog (eliminating things like "green_bean" and "peloquin"), so I've probably missed the actual one, if it's there. I thought I was onto something with microwave_diathermy_machine.wav, but I was very much mistaken.

L'EDIT SECONDAIRE: More ideas for those with more patience than me:

1. prepositions or phrases that sound like "Sounds like"
2. prepositions or phrases that sound like "between"
3. combinations of the above
4. combining a preposion found above with "analyst(s)", i.e. above_analysts, between_analysts

The number of possibilities leads me to hypothesise that we are missing something along the lines of the 'vital clue'... something to focus our efforts. I believe this because all of the other puzzles so far have been reasonably logical, with minimal guesswork involved. Just giving us "sounds like" and a list of prepositions makes me think that there's something bigger, or that we're missing the point entirely.

very tempting:
"sounds like" "list of prepositions" = analyst, position
which wouldn't be a farfetched phrase in the conversation
but no luck with analyst_position (or plurals thereof)
edit: nor analysts_premonition, 'tho I had a feeling

I wonder if Rani shares anything juicy about the evac on Reach?

Some of them are time prepositions; "Prime" sounds like "Time" and 41 is a prime number. There are also 41 "Mersenne" primes which is a prime number of the form 2^P-1 .. more here:

http://www.mersenne.org/faq.htm#what

http://www.mersenne.org/prime.htm

I haven't been able to get any further or produce the magic wav with this yet though using combinations of "Prime" and words that sound like "Location" (being the other type of preposition present).

I doubt that they will give us the wav file just because we can't solve the puzzle. I'm sure it will remain unlocked till we solve it. I do hope they give us another clue though if we don't have it by Friday.

Except there is no criteria for solving it. We don't submit any information to them to "unlock" the file. The file is already there. Theoretically, someone could have found it and just not told anyone. The only reason they'll know we haven't solved it is because we've plastered everywhere that it's unsolved.

If you think about it in game, the SP gives us these puzzles one week and then shows us the whole combined files the next week without hearing from us whether or not we solved it. So it's a possiblity they would post the whole thing on Friday, unless people have been e-mailing the SP for hints. Wink

I just meant that they wouldn't open up the Rani wav on humptydumty till we solve it, which looks to be the case so far.

They say 'hindsight' is 20/20, don't they?

Oi.

I can just envision the PMs as they created this puzzle, lol. "Hurly_Burly_Nurly.wav, hey Bob, that sounds like a list of prepositions doesn't it?" "Hey, it does. Call Frank over here, and let's get started!"

And then here we are, trying to solve it with:

*Loads rhyming and homophone shotgun* *Fires at transmit.ilovebees.com/outbound/*

Hurly_Burly_Nurly.wav doesn't work, lol. After I made it up, I had to check it. I also checked for the obvious sounds_like.wav and forty-one_prepositions.wav, just in case.

I'm thinking that once we figure this one out, we'll be smacking ourselves upside the collective head...

I just had a thought. Idea

Please trout me in neccesary, but what if this last puzzle can be used with the decoder ring puzzles and instead of ECHO (A=A) SOUNDS LIKE means (A=H) and we use the first letters of the prepositions. It definitely seems like a stretch to me but I thought it might be worth a try.

What is the name of the game where you act out different things on cards.
Its where you do the hand movement to signal "Sounds like". This is pretty much just for me because I completely forget what the name of this party game is and its ruining my life (I dreampt of it last night, yet didn't dream of the name).
