Okay, so apparently the latin phrase that's above the symbol that one clicks on to get to the next page and that is seen in the close up on that next page, "quaerere initium sapientiae", roughly translated by someone that doesn't know any latin (read: me), means "to serach for the first clue/knowledge."

To clarify a bit, we (me and Salkunh) checked and it comes out more "to seek the beginning of wisdom". Shes gonna get her Uni lecturer to look over it tomoz (a Dr. Mark Collier - Google him...hes fab lol). Just going over things as a hunch really Smile

I do not mean to just post uselessly.

but I have a few small observations.

1. all the dates are X'ed out xxxxxxxx

though why in 8? for us it would be understandable month xx day xx year xxxx but since their calendar has not reached a 1000 years why do we need xxxx?

unless

they only use the last two digits of the year and the remaining two Xs are in replacement of punctuation xx/xx/xx

or it is jsut a simple oversight by the PM

2. S Marchant

I googled for him and the first 5 results were for a S Marchant and Son antique dealer. http://www.marchantasianart.com/frame.htm

He apparently specializes in asian antiques. perhaps a coincidence.

However if you look at the asian link we already have from Sente and zyzygy and atari. perhaps it is related.

Especially since Marchant is selling a japanese chest containing 7 boxes. which could be considered cubes (I do not know if they are actually cubes or not)

Google also says "The bottom two are Sarah Covington" in regards to 6 pairs of earings in a collection. http://www.ioffer.com/i/6-Pairs-Vintage-Earrings-Sarah-Covington-amp-more-3732666

As alice said Curiouser and Curiouser. which wasnt very good english, but it got the point across.

...

The box I found is from 1840-1880
the earrings are from a collection from 1889

"Patience is a necessary ingredient of genius"
a quote found on the perplexcity page after you enter a email address

is from Benjamin Disraeli who lived 1804-1881.

perhaps i am jsut stretching here. but things seem connected to me.

Brand new to this, but after reading over and looking at the pics on indexB, I noticed that no-one mentioned the serial numbers in the bill are 959. I read earlier that some of the numbers missing on the errorlog files were 19, 59, and 109. Don't know if this has any significance. Also I like how Sente's signature on the letter starts in black in and seems to fade to red at the end. Just wanted to say hi.

Kree,

The S Marchant website looks like a genuine site (ie. off game), although it's a hell of a coincidence given
A) the Japanese origins of the word sente, and other ingame words.
B) This 'S Marchant' seems to be a collector of some sort (both the ingame version and this antiques dealer.

Can we find out (ie. someone more technical than I) how long his site has been up and running?

Where did you find out about the ear-rings?

re the dates of s marchants stuff
if the year is now post 148AC then year 0 would be pre 1856
assuming years of same length and not time dilated or anything

but i doubt the shop has anything to do with the game

Well some of them seem to be out of order, like "Re: Shoes!" comes before "Shoes!". Maybe if we arrange the logs in a logical order, we might find something. I am at school right now so I don't have much time look read over them.

So the word before cube is blacked out.

The PMs have said they have a secret partner.

Hmmm, reminds me of another set of PMs and an upcoming ARG called
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Virtucube.

Coincidence? Wink

My initial feeling is yes Smile But who knows! Anyway, I think we've found everything so far on these pages (well maybe not, but that's my instinct), someone feel free to correct me!

Does anyone feel upto or able to check on our worlds version of S. Marchant, i can have a friend check, but it'll involve sweet talking and she won't be back in London till the weekend. But i feel it's important to point out one thing: If Marchant wants it so bad, why would he be giving it away.
Also at a guess the bottom of Sente's letter Reads:
The Perplex City Academy, One Taversen Square, The Old Town...
And judging from Sente's immaculate headed paper there should be more after that else the address is skewed to the left.
Sorry to repeat what some have already said; The logo features the words (aside from the latin) Adamek Carrie[unfinished then two more yet unreadable words] Noi Taversen Zeller. It seems odd to have two identical names one on note paper the other as a component of an address, so i have three suggestions for the origin of the word Taversen in descending order of how possible i feel they are.
1) The name of one of the founders of the 'Academy', or important social figure.
2) A latin-type language that is used for mottos etc. in this other place.
3) This other place is a unified world, and it is the name of one of it's land masses.
Going to google each word then do some real work. Procrastinating right now.

Edit: Just realised two seconds after posting that they are names. Just ask Hesketh Zeller. But as he attended the academy himself he couldn't be a founder, or perhaps that's why his name is last. i REALLY want a copy of Sente's notepaper.

I can find scattered references to S. Marchant (the asian art dealer who's website we've been discussing) all the way back to 1997. The clincher, though, which proves he's out of game:

http://www.bada.org/provenart/dealer.cgi?d_id=228

He's been a member of the British Antiques Dealer's Association since 1944.

Well, lets begin Smile

Famous people always get stuff named after them, so why are you questioning the street name? from the cache file we already see that Zeller did something amazingly important, so why not Taversen?

Its not based on the founders, but more esteemed colleuges of the insitiute.

Regarding the name order as well, look a ickle bit closer:

Adamek
Carr...
Noi
Taversen
Zeller

Alphabetical anyone? Smile

Hi Guys,

I am just getting into ARG's, but I took a break from them last week when it was seeming like every rabbithole I followed resulted in the ARG shutting down. Now, I am sorry I did. Looks like there has been some activity!

I don't know if this has been figured out yet, but that error message over the marchant quote... Well, if you look at the source, you see that it references two stylesheets in /assets/css/. These are print and screen. If you examine them, you see that screen shows the image in the 'marchant' section and hides the 'furniture' section, while print hides 'marchant' and shows 'furniture'.

To make a long story short (and yes I know you guys already saw this error message - just an observation about how they did it) try printing http://perplexcity.com/2718281828/ ... pretty cool if you ask me.

Also, I guess you guys probably figured this out too, but if you look at the messages in the error log in the order that their 10-digit names appear, it makes much more sense. Did someone already point this out? If so, sorry about being repetitive.

Robert

Heh, turns out that what you need to display the listings in a directory is a double-slash. For example, the /assets/sitewide folder that didn't list the spacer gif before lists it just fine here: http://www.perplexcity.com//assets//sitewide/
I quickly went through the few directories we know of, and didn't find anything new.
