[HOAX] Potentially New Puzzle

Hit's her mark found an envelope taped to her axon today with the words "I love bees" written on it. Inside she found a letter that I have tried to recreate as best as possible considering she was reading it to me while I was listening on my crappy cell phone. Here's the letter, when she gets in she is going to scan it for us. *warning, this could just be some jerk on campus, but I guess we'll see...*

Well, it's not a simple A=1 cipher.

creeeeepy....

Let's get the ol' Puzzle machine fired up!

the ()x4 at the bottom of the page makes me want to count the number of those particular characters in the message, but that might be too easy.

Meh. Drat, how I wish I had time to play with this.

I did check the coordinates. Making the second number negative puts you in the ocean near Bermuda, while leaving it positive puts you off the coast of Iran.

i have a feeling that's the key to deciphering it... its reminiscent of the SP "did gire and gimble around a number 2 pencil" which led to her caesar cypher
but what could it mean.... electron leaves trapped in a risc pen? and spinning? what's spinning? the leaves or the pens?

RISC is a kind of computer processor, maybe that's a clue... the numbers are part of the risc cpu instruction set?

Here we go.

This was taped to the side of the phone which is on the UCI campus.

It costs $0.50 to answer the phone, when we got there, a quarter was already in the phone, which f'ed up the incomming call at 9:32 (thus, it did not go hot.)

The coords for the phone are
33.646270,
-117.839100

There are coords in the second half of the letter, they do not appear to match any of the coords on the UCI campus.

I don't think the number have anything to do with the RISC instruction set. The numbers only go up to 26, so I'm thinking they represent letters.

Considering that I'm the only one who has found one of these, on a University campus, it's entirely possible that it's a hoax...

But it'll be a few days until our next puzzle update... I figured you guys could have fun with it. Smile

Actually, now that I think about it, the information in the last line reminds me of memory addresses, maybe? I think. I know i've seen things in that format before, curse myself for being an ME instead of Computer Science!

I should also probably mention that the forward slashes

/

In the second half of the letter are actually two different little symbols...

One looks like a lightening bolt, and the other looks like...

... A ... different kind of lightening bolt... With a dot on the bottom...

I think all the ()'s are 0's... I couldn't see any full 0 in the scans, just (). The last line looks like hex value notations... not ()x4, but 0x4... and it's repeating, 0xa 0x4 0x9 0xa 0x4 0x9 0xa 0x4 0x9
