It's possible Gladys went offline during "Monster Ann" time.
Still it seems like a rather difficult, and usually perminant thing to do.
I'm pretty sure it was the cab and driver who were offline, not J^2.

Durga is having a hard time with Kamal offline... wouldn't the 1.0's be offline as well. Though not impossible, they would be very difficult to track. James did many things offline, like driving... though the spartans may not have taken it to the extreme Kamal has.

But the only reason James mentions for being offline is to hide Jan.

EDIT: What I mean by that is we do not know if it is normal for all Spartan 1.0s to be offline. Only J^2 was mentioned as being offline, and he stated his reason for that.

And I am also guessing that Durga knows who Monster Ann is, but it does not make sense to go past the initial name and workplace in the introductory audio clip.

J^2 was the cab driver.

true bcriswell, and to shoot my own question in the foot, Durga had no problems looking into the past on James and could trace who is really was and also did the same to Gilly.... so the only person she is having problems with is Kamal... whew, my brain hurts. Very Happy

Ah,
TheBruce confused me on that one Wink
His transcripts list them as separate people.

Still, we know the cab was offline, but we can not be sure about J^2.

EDIT - I suppose they do basically go "offline" every time they switch identities. They must have a way to move from place to place with new ID's or they'd never have any peace.

Still, Daboking has this one pegged. If Durga could see past identities of J^2, why nor Gladys?

sure we can. McKaskill makes mention of james driving offline... and then Jan said early on "how law abiding of you to let the road drive us home" (he must have gone online which sounded like a rare thing for him to do.

-- just disregard this, I should have read closer.

I do not think Durga ever came up with anything more than "pocket lint" on J^2's past.

Exclamation However, what you made me realise is that she did pull up the whole list of stuff on Gladys. She has done research on Gladys and Monster Ann, so the chance of her missing a connection between the two is slim but not impossible.

What really bothered me was that Thin knew all kinds of stuff he should not have.

He knew Jan could beat a pop quiz.
He knew about her escapade with stupid_cop.
... and there was something else. But I can't remember.

Appart from being totally disturbed, these things jumped out at me and I was like, "How did he know that?"

I thought perhaps he was in kahoots with the stupid_cop... But he didn't seem the kind to hook up with Thin...

But Jan did tell her "Aunt" about what happened there... So, that falls into place nicely.

Both are things that he could have got from a mole or some other informant. He may have started looking into it because one of his buddies got face-holed by Stupid Cop. Of course, none of what I just said is supported in an audio clip.

It's possible that Durga does know that Gladys is monster Ann (if, in fact, she is) but has decided that nobody needs to know. It seems plausible that she might try to manuever people like chess pieces, and it may be too early to spoil the fun.

Or maybe not.

However, Durga knowing / not knowing, IMO, shouldn't really affect the validity of the spec.

I'm guessing Durga won't have problems tracking Kamal for long, regardless of whether or not he's offline:

Quote:
Kamal: Theoretically, I guess you could build a program that would jump from chatter to chatter, tracking us everywhere we went, but, it would have to be so unimaginably powerful.

What program does that sound like?

Re: [SPEC] Monster Ann = Gladys

First of all, Bravo! I'm glad someone elaborated this SPEC a bit... when I first saw Turbov21's original spec I found it very interesting but didn't really expound on it much. Now I have to say that I find this to be quite solid SPEC and that (for what it's worth) I think we are going to find out that it is almost entirely correct.

My only questions is: shouldn't Durga be able to get the connection between Gladys and Monster Ann instantly?

Hmm, maybe, maybe not. She didn't make the connection between the "brain ninjas" (that she herself brought up), Kamal's sister, and herself... Jersey had to put it together for her. But maybe that was just some reflection thing to stop her from knowing "the truth"...

Also, this SPEC also makes it more interesting to see how much Gladys pushes Jan to stay with the Morales'. Hrm....

Or maybe Gladys ISN'T Monster Ann, but DOES work for/with her. She could still have had a hand in setting up JJ and Jan without actually BEING Thin's boss...

if Durga hasn't mentioned knowing about the Monster Ann/Gladys connection, well it could just be another one of those "you never asked" moments that Durga did before in a previous wav.

Listen to the clip again. In fact, Durga is clearly doing just that! When Kamal goes offline, his voice becomes distant and has more static - Durga is listening through the chatter of another nearby person! How else could she be listening to him at all when he is offline? There is never a break in her spying. He has underestimated her.

Edit: Just listened again to all the clips. I correct myself, you do have a case. In Military_application we have:
Quote:
Jersey: You'll find him.
Durga: I don't like not knowing where he is.

So even though she could track him remotely, she has lost him now (perhaps when he went out of range of other people's chatters).
