I think that the puzzle will be easier than what we see here with ilovebees. I'm betting that on Oct. 15 when the website goes up you will find those symbols scattered around. Click on them in the order presented on the wallpaper and it will unlock something.

I'm betting the difficulty will be on par with the little puzzles on http://www.jkrowling.com/ ...semi-tricky, but accessible to anybody with a mouse and the patience to click on everything.

Just my thoughts.

Er, the code is not a code

it seems simple enough. The code says exactly what is written next to it.
The letter 't' is three triangles at a diagonal angle, and appears everywhere that there is a 't' in the phrase. Count them along and see.

You've been duped into thinking it's anything more complicated.

Not that I'm taking the piss or anything. Rolling Eyes

Besides, the number of the symbols and the number of letters don't match up. There aren't enough symbols.

Here's my thinking so far.

Sub. letters for the symbols like Phaedra; ABCDEFBGHGIJKEBHEC.

Going on the assumpyion of simple substitution since A) they'd probably use something simple for their Easter Eggs (see: Jak & Daxter, Futurama). B) There's not enough information to solve otherwise.

First I tried the suggestion of an URL in to try to get a foothold. There can't be a symbol standing for a period because .com or .net gaves B=. which then gives:

-.----.-------.--- which looks wrong with a single character at the start.

Taking the possibility that it's DOTCOM instead looks promising, since the repeated O is in the right place, but it gives t and o as the two most common letters, not a bad prospect in a sample this small. Less good is having M as third most common, but for so small a population frequency isn't going to work too well.

-TM-O-T-C----DOTCOM nothing springs to mind but there's nothing to rule it out yet. First letter needs to be a vowel. The ones on either side of C are the only other repeated characters and also a vowel I think.

Anyway, this is all built on the shakiest of foundations. Tomorrow I'm going to think about a logical progression in the symbols which might put D,G and H in the same part of the alphabet.

I swear, if this ends up being a preposition, I'm going to scream.

Just in case it gets overlooked, Grandest pointed out in the General Updates section that the Halo2.com site is now going all wonky - noise and distortions.

Meh.

I was going to put this through the software at work, but I didn't get around to it, and I'm to tired to work on it tonight by hand. If no one cracks it tonight I'll have a go tomorrow.

I'm still not sure it's an alphabet, though.

EDIT: Okay, I'm compulsive...

The most interesting thing I've gotten so far is RITUALI_ _ _ _ _ _ AI_AT

Not convinced it's a substitution cipher...<sigh>. Back to square one.

I believe the people unlocking the AXON's on the ILB's (ILoveBees.com) site are unknowingly assisting the covenant hack the planet earth's defense systems. I bet the ILB mystery will be solved right before Halo 2 is released. All AXON's will be unlocked and something will happen.

Hmmm.... Halo2.com

It is almost Identical to ilovebees.com in terms of Hostile Take over.

Arg's have been known to do this(Intermingle Mutiple Websites) and I don't think it should be overlooked.

Unifiction should jump on this First, before the Noobs, who never come here start posting like crazy.

I'm going to try and figure this one out early....... Wild Spec. Melissa/The Operator has found a way to ESCAPE the Ilovebees Server. Now She is wetting the System and spreading everywhere. We must either Stop her or encourage the Effort. But it shows some serious promise. Maybe she is trying to find more Crew Members.(or more Halo fans to join the game in the last few weeks before Nov.9th)

I know it's Wild..... So no need to Comment.

Halo2.com is a good start. This might be where the ilovebees.com Saga ends. It makes sense. Does it not?

Mac OS X keeps some data, e.g. application preferences, in XML files called .plist (Property LIST) files. What you have above is an incomplete fragment of a .plist. It looks like a fragment of printing settings.

FWIW, I think this is just a side effect from the creator of the image using a Mac OS X machine. Anyhow, there was another bit of embedded data (looked like Photoshop filter settings or something). I've extracted both and attached them here.

What's cute is you can tell when the file was created:
Code:
<date>2004-10-13T16:17:56Z</date>

The "Z" is for Zulu, i.e. GMT or UTC.

Did anyone notice orange symbols in the static of the Halo 2 site? They look almost like more letter-symbols, but I can't be sure. I can't seem to freeze-frame it on the static screen. (And they're so blurry, it wouldn't be much good anyway)

Yeah, I see like 3 blobs. Going to the Media page slows it down a bit, at least on my slow machine.

I posted this in the Halo2.com thread in the General Section, but I might as well give what I've got.

You know how it is possible to hide pixels in images, so that the image appears normal when looked at in its original colors, but as soon as you invert, or strip away certain color layers, you can see the image.

If a skilled photoshop or paintshop pro artist could work on the static and wavey images we get, perhaps we can find something tucked away inside the pictures...

LOL Not to knock your efforts, but blue was probably the worst possible color you could have chosen to circle orange blobs. The reason is that orange and blue are complementary colors (as are red and green). I remember a demonstration in college psychology where you'd stare at a red square for a minute, then look at a white wall and see a phantom green square. Because the background is black and white, you're liable to see either orange rings, blue triangle blobs, or both on the background if you shift your focus Smile

edit: Then again, maybe it's smart because it makes the blobs stand out more? I dunno, I'm messing around with it in Photoshop now but it's not really yielding anything. There IS some non-b/w stuff there but I can't tell what.
