<sigh> I guess I'll have to let you off the hook, then. If I may ask and you may answer without giving away anything classified, what are the characters supposed to be? Covenant block print?

And in case you ever have to create a language again (I'm sure you do that all the time, right? Smile ), if you check out Tolkien's tengwar, they provide a better example than any real language (created languages have that luxury) of a script which indicates the relationships of the letters to one another and to how the sound is produced.

They are based off East Asain type text as far as how they are meant to be grouped in a nice grid. This is about as far as we got due to time. The characters themselves... I honeslty do not know if they were intented for Covenant Text to begin with or not. But that is what we now are using them for. On the new halo2.com site you will see alot more and will see how I tried to group them. It is not as straight forward as how the halo2.com teaser is now... they used it in a very bad way... way to Western ... as in it was used like English is written and read. That was another mistake.
Hope this helps

Well, then, I'm looking forward to it. Good job, by the way, in case I forgot to say it. Smile

Yeah, that would've been neat, if someone had managed to arrange them some other way, but left it looking as though it could be read left to right. Then, it would have taken us at LEAST another hour to figure out we are supposed to read it top to bottom, right to left, or something like that.

Well, most non-Asian languages were originally written right to left. The Phoenician script (reasonably close to Hebrew) was adopted by the Greeks, who at first wrote right to left, like the Phoenicians. Then, they switched to alternating right to left and left to write to make it sort of snake down the page, and eventually they decided to go back to one way -- but went left to write. [humor]So, it's all their fault that we don't understand Middle Eastern politics.[/humor]

I think there's already one out there, but here's another chart of the code. I think the other one wasn't alphabetical, so this one is.

Its not too pretty, but it works. Razz

nice, it's good for encoding, but I made mine based on symbols to make decoding much easier... find the middle piece first column, then match the alterations in its row to the letter. faster and easier Smile

but at least we now have the cipher key by both methods - by letter and by symbol.

decrypt key

Glad you approve. That's what I was pretty much going for, just the ease of having an alphbetical list, as well as one based on alterations.

1. They made it way to easy by using the most cliche takeover phrase ever and throwing in an I love bees didnt help either.

2. Somebody from their web team told one of his friends.. etc etc.

I dont know which is correct but it still is lame that it was so easy.

It looks like several people decoded it (including kidk, myself, and thebruce). It was because of #1 - the phrase was a dead giveaway. I would have preferred more of a challenge like you are describing your intent was. But hey, I'm still looking forward to seeing Cortana in flames. I know she's burninating. Smile

Indeed, for me it was the "love bees" that gave it away. I didn't work on any of it past the last line because I had pressing matters to attend to at work, but I was on IM with Wynn and know that he solved it quite quickly once he started working on it.

I have a feeling the "we love bees" is a clue; for one, it tells HBO it WAS them who did ILB. For another.... i think that is the font that it's the FORERUNNER font...

After all, it doesn't look like the text in Truth and Reconciliation, and the UNSC already know Covie... maybe we have to use this to decipher the text on the artifact? The text described as "a bunch of weird symbols"...
