Just a thought. We now have a decryption key for the symbols. These symbols look a bit familliar from halo. I'm thinking that we might be able to decrypt Covenant ship panels \ Forerunner markings within the game. Bungie did say that halo2 would give us a method of getting more information out of halo1.

A side note: according to the books, the Covenant written language is a "baroque" version of Forerunner, with lots of extra flourishes and ornate decorations on an otherwise simple alphabet. This language looks nothing like that, so I'm thinking that it's straight Forerunner.

Of course, the message was [META] from Bungie, not some sort of "Your destruction is the will of the gods, and we are their messenger" kind of thing, so I'm not anticipating any interesting plot-related activities going on with the alphabet before release.

I've noticed something that I didn't see anyone else mention: The individual portions of the site (at least, by clicking on the menu on the bottom of the page) have different patterns:

Home/Community: 4 statics, 2 glitches
Story: 2 statics, 1 glitch
Imagery: 3 statics, 1 glitch
Media: 1 static, 1 glitch (both long)

Watch each and you'll know what I mean. Don't count glitches/statics when the first time after the screen changes, as it could be a roll-over from the last page.

Perhaps we're supposed to follow a path? Media > Story > Imagery > Home/Community

I posted a side note in the Puzzles Halo2.com thread...

Might as well post it here too

Quote:
The Covanent are "rumoured" to be extremely vain - which would suggest ornate and "cocky" writing styles.

However - is it possible that they would consider themselves humble before the language of their "gods".

I mean, if God wrote, would we all copy Him and try to make our language look better? Sounds like hubris, or blasphemy to me...

What about the "dashes dots and triangles, a message, yes!" thingy? And doesn't Covie language look more like the random symbols all over the Halo elites (the invisible ones camouflage generators, for instance)? At least that's my oppinion and I'm sticking to it. I'm writing in Forerunner, darnit! And you can't tell me otherwise! *sticks tongue out at everyone else* Smile

ON Topic - Arashi's sig is still too big. Look around; we don't do ginormous sigs here.

New site is up. Tons of the code. Those who have the alphabet, get cracking.

EDIT: These are new letters I've found. I will be updating.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v55/halofan141/letters.gif

EDIT 2: List updated. Also, there are numbers. There are too many unknowns for the amount of missing letters. Also, on the page with sarge, there is a missing 'T' in 'Terminated'.

Correction: There are more characters than the alphabet as well as the numbers 0-9.

Here's one suggestion: Combos. I'm gonna get very fanboyish here, but this is my experence with other languages, mainly the Tengwar alphabet from Tolkin.

The Tengwar has more letters than the english alphabet in the english mode of it. The reasoning for this, is because it's from sound, and not letters. K also doubles for one C sound, while S doubles for the other, for one example. And then there's a NG, which is used in endings such as ING, not seperate I-N-G letters. I may be overanalysing here, but if there's more than we can think of, then it's possibly something like that.

Actually, I tried looking at it from that angle for a couple hours this afternoon, and it doesn't seem to lead anywhere. Most of the symbols are straight up replacement letters for English alphabet. There is also punctuation, but the only thing I can really decode easily (because of apparent randomness of punctuation anyway) is a period, which is the bar-like triangle at the end of btwcortanaishotnow. Or at least that seems to be a symbol for "end of sentence/transmission"

Actually on one of the pages talking about MC (too lazy to look up exact page info) it says something about blending with surroundings, only the 'ng' is messed up. It says 'surroundings' 2 times, and in one it has no 'n' and the other has no 'g'. So there may be something to that theory....

I love Cortana's page, and the machine washable. Pure humor on that site. I LOVE it! I also have the cortana page as my desktop now, because it's so funky. NEW HARIDO SASSY!
