I have enough hope in the good folks posting here that no one wbe vile enough to post spoilers. I feel confident that if a fellow beekeeper were foolishly inclinded to do so, a moderator would ban him in the blink of an eye. Also, in mention to those of you who would try to grab this... BITORRENTS ARE VERY TRACKABLE, AND THIS IS NOT WORTH THE RISK NOW, IS IT? have a nice day Wink

Not sure how true this, but apparently on suprnova the original seed has gone. I dont' know enough about the site and tech, but hopefully they can trace each one and lock them out.

torrents

The seed may be gone (which may or may not stop pirates from getting the full file), but the tracker is still being used. The tracker is a computer that coordinates the torrenting between clients. If the tracker goes down, the torrent file is useless, even if there are potential seeds to the torrent. Of course, if someone completes the file, they can redistribute it via other means.

*edit maybe the tracker is down too, now?

I checked suprnova as well just now, I don't see any torrent for halo 2 on there at all. Maybe someone got to them somehow?

I do see it on usenet though, which means there's likely no stopping distribution at this point.

Anyone who downloads it faces a max fine of $10,000.

I'll gladly take the 25.5 days of waiting instead.

Heh.. Wink

Seriously, if you want to avoid spoilers bare in mind where you're surfing. Most forums (xbox, Bungie) etc are a no-no, as even teh mods can't police them 24/7 Thankfully my local haunt of EG seems to be OK so far.

HBO will refuse to cover it, being as they are BIIIIIG Bungie fans. They've gone far, faaaaaaaaaar out of their way to avoid spoiling it, and they WILL continue.

However, it's probably all over GameFAQs, being as that's constantly discussing pirate copies (look at the DOOM 3 forum...)

EDIT: so right:

HBO wrote:
As many of you already know, there is a cracked copy of the French PAL version of Halo 2 out there on the net. I suppose it was inevitable - but that doesn't mean it's okay with us. Leaked screens, descriptions of not-already-released areas of the game (both single and multiplayer), links to downloads - all of these will get you permanently banned from our forum, so don't put them there. Please understand our position; we started this site in 1999 to pay homage to Bungie - we really felt they were the best gaming company out there, bar none, and we wanted to create a place where people could appreciate their work. When that work is stolen and released without permission, everybody loses. Bungie loses revenue, and control over their own intellectual property. Fans who choose NOT to download the product (and it's rather large, and in a format most Americans don't have the capability to read) lose, because information about the game will begin circulating weeks before they can get their hands on it. Folks downloading the pirated game lose because it's nearly certain that Microsoft will get a copy, as well, and once they have a fingerprint for this, your chances of getting on XBL are nonexistent. (Yeah, sure, you can use it for LAN games, and on networks like XBC and Xlink Kai - but it's possible someone will be monitoring those networks as well.) I'm sad today. (Louis Wu 10:21:34 UTC)

But i refuse to look at gamefaqs.

Gamefaqs need to be shut down as a service to humanity to be honest.

On the other hand at least all the tards flock there and stay there where normal people can avoid them.

I have found the version hidden on a particularly easy-to-get and popular source.
I will disclose no further.

I may have... pirated... things before, but I am no longer a member of that exclusive group. theft of any kind is wrong.
And now that the damned pirates have obtained THE game...

Well. I simply won't download it. nor will I condon or assist the spread of this cancer.

Be Warned. if I find so much as 1 spoiler, one individual posting anything about their STOLEN copy of Halo2... I will hunt you down.
Bungie deserves better. We all do for that matter.

Email the location to piracySPLATmicrosoft.com

And there's a phone number too, although I don't know it. Check that link I posted to eurogamer, it's there.

Just because it's gone from bittorrent, or not on the newsgroups yet, or not in your local IRC channel, it's still out there on the private FTP's that form the backbone of the warez networks.

Fortunately, it'll be nuked from most for not being in english. Even so, there's no way to stop it.

You know, I think I might have been the reason it disappeared from suprnova Very Happy after I read the news, I checked the site and it was there in all it's 2.8GB glory... it only had around the 20-50 seed/leech range, but I saw it, and immediately shot an email off to piracySPLATmicrosoft.com and checked a few hours later, and it was gone... I didn't download the torrent tracker, so I can't tell if it's still active or not, but I like to think I had a hand in one source removal Smile heh

Stop the theft!

I agree that it is impossible to truly stop the spread of the pirated version, but I believe WE can help supress it. All of us can refuse to download it or have any association with it. If fact, I think we should all concentrate on finding the perps and notifying Microsoft and/or Bungie.

Well done thebruce. Even if it wasn't you who directly caused the seed to get wiped you did the right thing by reporting it, something to be proud of matey.
