[SPEC] Halo 2 ilovebees storyline.

Slap me if this is trout or something Confused, but......

Ok, we all know how Melissa is an AI from the future. Well, the other day I was thinking about how she sounded so surprised and relieved to be speaking with a human (in the first live calls), and that she hadn't spoken with anyone in a long time. I think a long time for an AI would be a LONG time.

Maybe in the future, humanity has been wiped out. Maybe Melissa was sent by someone to change the future. She mentions how she was damaged and endured severe memory loss. Maybe the memory of what her mission is was lost.

Confused

What do you guys think?

err.. I dont know if thats very trouty.. but its Very wild.. interesting [spec] but (just first thought) for an AI, operating at who knows how many cycles a second, a long time could actually be a rather short time.

Hmm, you may be right. Didn't think of it that way.

Maybe everything happened faster than I'm thinking?

Could be that the actual time it took her to go back in time was extremely stretched. Maybe this time could take into account that her systems were screwed up and splintered into the SP/PF or whatever spec you believe in.

We still do have that connection to the future through Durga, so...if she's saying THAT'S the future, it probably is.

If I recall, in Halo "Smart" AI's have an average lifespan of around 7 years, at which point they absorb too much information to be able to concentrate anymore and just kind of fade away. That's why Cortana has troubles focusing after absorbing all of the forerunner data from Halo. I guess that would explain why Mel is nuts on the site, but that's a much more sign of Marathons Rampancy then the kind of AI death that happens in Halo.

Dumb AI's however can exist indefintely, but we all know Mel isn't one of those. Wink

Actually, she is quite a bit younger then 7 years, the problem Cortana has in First Strike is that she has downloaded too much information. It's just like if you've filled up your computers hard drive, it'll slow down, you need to either defragment (Cortana would need to read her info and organize it for convience) or reformat. Some people speculate that having that much info would accelerate her aging, which is possible, but it's not definite.
