It is...ish. At A level I was taught Ethanoic acid goes in jars with onions and Propanone (or more correctly 2-Propanone) doesn't. Then I got to uni and the lecturers had problems with the hip new naming system (not very new) and called things random names like acetic acid and acetone. Ethanol, for example, is the modern name and if they had any consistency they'd have called it ethyl alcohol, or potato alcohol, or any number of ridculous names.

Did some research, there isn't a common theme across the three that I can see. The only other thing is that generally in chemistry if you can't get something to dissolve in water then it almost certainly will in acetone
I'll keep checking my txt books, may even get in touch with some of my ex professors see if they can think of anything.
