SOLVED PUZZLES

1. DARWIN PUZZLE

BUT_FUN.gif
Dear Charles,

Concerning your manuscript,
we are having some difficulty
with your quaint notion of tiny
adhesive notes. Without an un-
forseen degree of improvement,
they will remain far more
irritating than useful. The
editor begs you to simply
rewrite the pages at issue using
full sheets. This will ensure the
best possible outcome for the
upcoming print of you brilliant
opus.

In the meanwhile, I am returning
to you these notes, which have
become detached from the
manuscript pages. Our clerks
have remained unable, or in
some cases, unwilling, to
discern obfuscated or corrupted
phrases and to reconstruct their
chronology. If you would be so
kind...

It is very difficult for me to make out, but is the Eisenhower stamp cancelled?

(looks like a reed.. no confirmation)- written on in - (egypt)
Madder - yields the color - red

smoker:
Dandilion -medicinal action - Diuretic
Ipecacuanha - medicinal action - emetic
Eyebright - in the treatment of - eyes
Pennyroyal - to induce - menstruation
Yarrow - commonly known as - Old Man's Pepper (? could be just yarrow)

Yarrow Synonyms (http://www.botanical.com/botanical/mgmh/y/yarrow02.html)
---Synonyms---Milfoil. Old Man's Pepper. Soldier's Woundwort. Knight's Milfoil. Herbe Militaris. Thousand Weed. Nose Bleed. Carpenter's Weed. Bloodwort. Staunchweed. Sanguinary. Devil's Nettle. Devil's Plaything. Bad Man's Plaything. Yarroway.

I'd go with Soldier's Woundwort for "DEEMS".

beewithh.gif: top right picture is Peruvian Bark
http://www.botanical.com/botanical/mgmh/p/perbar29.html

It treats a number of things, but one humorous thing is it is "useful as a cure for drunkenness"!

Which, uh, goes with the Jabberwocky puzzle... Smile

Eisenhower might be cancelled. There's sort of a black line in the lower part of the stamp, above the lettering, but it's hard to tell if that's part of the stamp since it's a black and white stamp.

Yes, there are black cancellation lines barely visible on the left edge of that stamp. (I can make out 8 horizontal lines.)

I think the picture is just that for Quinine:

yeah, i can't tell.... i did realize something though, because its obscurred like that, its hard to tell what Ike's stamp is worth, i think the value's might have something to do with the letter that you pic from, but some don't work
ie: philo t farnsworth = only 18 chars WITH spaces

There's no need for name calling. His post was a bit long, but he was trying to make sure nothing had been forgotten.
