[UPDATE] May 24 Quirky Acuity - PXC History

Quote:
Back to the Perplex City Historical Society for monthly meeting. OK, I know this makes me a geek, but I just love this stuff. I can't help it. This evening we had a presentation about the pre-history of the city. They've been doing some amazing archaeological work on the far side of Catbite... apparently there's evidence of a settlement in the area much earlier than they've thought before. The guy presenting - Dr Dunroe - is quite controversial, but he thinks that the site could date back more than 1,000 years before the first recorded settlements. I've read some of the stuff by people who disagree with him, who say that the things he's found could easily be just the remnants of encampments by the nomadic tribes we already know were all over the area. But last night's presentation was really convincing - showing what he says are the outlines of large buildings, even perhaps some "civic" buildings, and a huge gateway to the north. On the walk back I was pondering on what on earth it could have been... what could have needed a gateway that big, especially if the settlement was really pretty small. Mind-blowing.

So...is PxC situated in a post-apocalyptic world?

Interesting that Violet uses the expression "what on earth", even though she's... well, not.

It's an Iconian gateway, they used to escape from earth 1,000 years ago (in 1000 AD they though all life on earth was suppossed to be killed by "comet dust" as the earth passed threw the tail of a comet durring the end of the first millinium) and thats why we have a shared history... Laughing

Nice one PM's indeed.

I have noticed they never claim that PC is a planet - we only know cities and a country (with no name). May the idea of being 'on' a planet is unique in their assessment of the universe.

When referring to the Cube it has always been 'Transported to Earth' so I assume that they do not consider themselves to be of Earth and also some distance. But there could be other, separated, human tribes. In the real world hollow earth is far fetched non-sense I know (watch that statement come back on me) but in ARGs?

Also, this is off topic, if they all use drawings to represent themselves why does the Ceretin advert have a photograph?

it's a stargate! a stargate i tell you! they're just another nomadic lot of tau'ree or however you spell it... i could go on to highlight the stargate at e3, the egyptian type puzzle card but then some of you might think i'm being serious with this spec ;)

considering they seem to share the same language as us, either that or there's a babelfish (of the yellow and squirmy type) involved somewhere along the way, would the word earth not also mean literal ground beneath your feet, soil n that? i have to say id be more comfortable using the phrase 'what on earth' if i was on another planet as opposed to in mid air, or under the sea.

rach =)

When the Cube was discovered in the Catbite area, i wonder how close it was to this 'gateway'. Maybe the Cube was the power source for the 'gateway' ???

Also Violet seems to know what a 'gateway' is. Has there been any other reference to a 'gateway' previous to this??

Lol, yeah. I even said that a moment on the chatroom before I came to post it in the thread, looks like I was too late Sad
But think about it, they can send matter through 'cause they have a DHD (which is plausible, because it's a fantasy place), but we can't send matter back because we don't have a dhd and anubs has blown up cheyenne or something, maybe.

perhaps PPC is the place beyond the bermuda triangle, where all those who disappear in it go....
it may shed light on the idea that the cube has 4 dimensions (cant remember the thread) , its here somewhereas the people who disappear in the bermuda triangle go into the fourth dimension...
it could mean that the bermuda triangle maybe passes you to a new place, not to do with earth though.

just a possibility Smile

..or perhaps IT is the Gateway - some sort of traversable black hole [like in Monolith in 2001]

Cor, I hope the PMs can knock that one up before they bury it in the ground for one of us to find : )
