INFO: interesting source code in link from aluaranj.org site

This is my first post here and I may be way off, but I found what looks like some kind of instructions in the following link from the agularanj.org website: http://www.aglauranj.org/clickTAG

I got here by clicking on the buisness links page, then clicking the beer an wine link at the top, which is on this page: http://www.aglauranj.org/busads.html

Long story short here is the source code and it looks like some kind of instructions to a URL, all of which is greek to this non-script-non-html-writing weenie.

Anyway, take a look at the source code on the 404 error page and let me know if I am way off here, or if Sam is trying to tell us something.

I don't see anything odd about that 404 page at all. Can you point out exactly what you are noticing?

checkTAG

The first email I sent was to the webmaster for www.aglauranj.org to tell them about clickTAG:

Quoting "Thomas R. Stevenson" <tom@tom.cc.wayne.edu>:

> Just wanted to point out that you seem to have an missing link on page
> http://www.aglauranj.org/busads.html.
>
> When I click on the upper banner, I get dropped to
> http://www.aglauranj.org/clickTAG
>
> which gives me the error:
>

> Not Found
>
> The requested URL /clickTAG was not found on this server.
>

and I received the following email back:

Hey Tom,
Thanks for pointing that out. Sometimes it's hard to catch all those bad tags
and missing links yourself, and this is pretty much a one-man show around here.
I'm pretty much responsible for it all - website, town network, databases, and
so on. If you see anything else like that on my pages please let me know 'cause
I need to do some updates anyway.
Thanks,
Sam Greene

I received his reply on Mar 3, but they still haven't fix it. Either this is so unimportant that they are just ignoring the error, or maybe it means something that we haven't figured out yet.

find in the source code of aglauranj.org/history

I haven't seen this mentioned yet.. so.

There is a message in the source at
http://www.aglauranj.org/history.html
It's after the text portion of the site and says
<!--daleswashere -->

Maybe we need to look abit closer at that page?

What I'm talking about is in the Souce for "clickTAG&am

Here it is, it starts right after the end tag for the head:

<script>

function Homepage(){
// in real bits, urls get returned to our script like this:
// res://shdocvw.dll/http_404.htm#http://www.DocURL.com/bar.htm

//For testing use DocURL = "res://shdocvw.dll/http_404.htm#https://www.microsoft.com/bar.htm"
DocURL = document.location.href;

//this is where the http or https will be, as found by searching for :// but skipping the res://
protocolIndex=DocURL.indexOf("://",4);

//this finds the ending slash for the domain server
serverIndex=DocURL.indexOf("/",protocolIndex + 3);

//for the href, we need a valid URL to the domain. We search for the # symbol to find the begining
//of the true URL, and add 1 to skip it - this is the BeginURL value. We use serverIndex as the end marker.
//urlresult=DocURL.substring(protocolIndex - 4,serverIndex);
BeginURL=DocURL.indexOf("#",1) + 1;
if (protocolIndex - BeginURL > 7)
urlresult=""

urlresult=DocURL.substring(BeginURL,serverIndex);

//for display, we need to skip after http://, and go to the next slash
displayresult=DocURL.substring(protocolIndex + 3 ,serverIndex);

// Security precaution: must filter out "urlResult" and "displayresult"
forbiddenChars = new RegExp("[<>\'\"]", "g"); // Global search/replace
urlresult = urlresult.replace(forbiddenChars, "");
displayresult = displayresult.replace(forbiddenChars, "");

document.write('<A target=_top HREF="' + urlresult + '">' + displayresult + "</a>");

}
function doSearch()
{
saOC.NavigateToDefaultSearch();
}

function initPage()
{
document.body.insertAdjacentHTML("afterBegin","<object id=saOC CLASSID='clsid:B45FF030-4447-11D2-85DE-00C04FA35C89' HEIGHT=0 width=0></object>");
}

</script>

Why would an error page have this script to nowhere? Now my math is awful, and my algebra even worse, but this seems like an algebraic equation.

And my apologies to the moderators for posting in the wrong place to begin with.

Slap me silly and call me GW if I'm wrong, but it just seems out of place. I've tried deciphiring this, but it goes past my "C" average high-school algebra. I avoided math at all costs in college.

P.S. If this is normal in an error page source code then I hope an HTML guru would point out my error so I quit chasing herrings.

Hey Thomas,

This is a normal error message. Just try going to
http://www.unforums.com/abc.htm

and notice you get the same kind of code!

Thanks for not flaming the newbie to this genre.

Thanks, I thought I was "chasing" my tail here.

ARGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
