I wasn't going to submit anything, but I saw this picture on Engadget and couldn't resist.

My text:

First Lieutenant jsailor reporting in with a compaison of something
that might be foreign to you, along with it's counterpart in 2552, and
also proof that some things never change.

Gambling has been an integral part of society in both 2004 and 2552.
It is a recreational activity as well as a potential to perhaps
increase your monetary holdings if luck is on your side. In 2004, we
have several locations which allow gambling based on the outcome of a
horse race. In 2552, these locations and races still exist on Earth,
but due to their endangered status as a species, horses have had to be
replaced with robots which simulate the horse and rider. The gambling
and social aspect of the horse races remain the same.

The first image in the picture shows what the horse and jockeys are
like in 2552, the second image displays an actual human riding an
actual horse - something you might have never seen, having been
created on Reach in the future.

Melissa,

It has come to my attention that other crew members have sent you images of transportation technology, as I did earlier. Given that they likely outrank a lowly Seaman Apprentice such as myself, I assume their contributions will make mine redundant.

Therefore, I'm enclosing a new contribution, showing advances in custodial technology between now and "now." Hopefully it will be of help to you in acclimating to our new circumstances. Also, the first photo really makes me laugh, and a morale boost is always welcome.

I await your instructions.

Seaman Apprentice McDonald Heard
Team Wisconsin

My entry is a little less creative, but I haven't seen anyone else cover this yet. Maybe I'm taking the definition of a "lifepod" too literally?

Because everybody needs chapstick...

Quote:
Melissa --
Chapstick is a very important construct in the year 2004. It is comprised of petrolatums, padimate O, lanolin, isopropyl myristate and cetyl alcohol, which combine into a waxy substance that can be used to coat dry and chapped lips. However, while small (roughly two inches in length), it can be extremely bulky when contained inside a pocket.

In 2552, crewmembers will still suffer from the problem of dry and chapped lips, but space inside uniforms can be limited. Thus chapstick will literally become a stick. Similar to sticks of chewing gum in the 21st century, these sticks of Chapstick can be stored 5-to-a-pack of roughly the same size as a single round Chapstick. It covers lips in the same manner while taking up less space. Crew can easily slip a single stick of Chapstick into their unforms, without creating an unsightly bulge.

Guys, don't forget to put "signals" for the Sleeping Princess in the photos you're submitting to Melissa. She's counting on us again.

Hello Operator,

I understand that you are in need of visual comparisons of local-time (2004) items with your own local-time (2552). I have attached two photographs. One is the city of Mombassa on the continent of Africa as it appears today (mombassa2004.jpg). The other is an educated guess as to its appearance, given current population growth patterns, in 2552 (mombassa2552.jpg). It will be much more densely packed as the population of Earth will have grown exponentially, in a manner only somewhat relieved by our colonies.

(I haven't been established as a crew-member, so it will be interesting to see if she accepts this.)
