London speculation

Had a look at AH's blog and his flickr files and found some pictiures of London. I think the picture on index B is taken from National Theatre or somewhere roundabouts. AH mentions seeing His Dark Materials II which is playing there.

We have also looked at as many pictures of London as we can and think it is South of the river. The mention of Clapham makes sense especially when you look at Dan Hon's blog and follow the link "Clapham" .

Zoom on the image and you find Old Town. We have various obscure theories about Taversen based on dictionary definitions that lead us to Grafton Square.

All just speculation Confused

Taversen/Grafton

Have you posted these theories about Grafton Square? If so could you point me in the right direction, if not please could you share them with us when you get an opportunity.

Thanks

Grafton/Taversen

As I tried to explain earlier (but it disappeared), on not finding anything on Taversen online we resorted to the dictionary.

This gave us the following from Chambers Dictionary (New Edition):

taver (1), … (Scot) n (often pl)* a shred, a tatter [Cf Norw and Dan tave]
taver (2), … (Scot) vi to wander about aimlessly; to rave …[Cf Norw tava to toil** …] …

* i.e. tavers
** toil = graft

I said it was obscure

£50 note, significant?

Ok,
Yes, I'm a newbie,
Yes, I have searched for this already
Yes, I have annoyed people with my idea
Yes, I'm sorry

Glad thats cleared up.

Anyway, I think the fifty pound note was used for a good reason, not just for decorative value. Its a rare note, I've only ever seen two in my life and only touched one. So i found a picture of one and studied it a bit. I found on the back there is a guy called "The Gatekeeper" which brought to mind the reference to Gatehouse 24, and the 2 manuscrips that show peoples emotional state and all that.

Also, someone in one of the threads have searched through suggested that the Perplexcity Academy was something similar to the idea out of the "His Dark Materials" novels by Philip Pullman, where Lyra exsists in a universe that is similar, but subtly different to the one her "lover" lives in, which is ours. This made me think, that since the "Gatekeeper" guy is working at the bank of England, which is a very high security building, maybe the Perplex City universe is a mirrior universe, and the Academy is possibly the mirrior of the bank.

I accept this could be a load of brown stuff, but i was bored.

Feel free to critise, I've never played one of these before, so i may be looking for things that are a tad to obvious.

Jon

Well i think the U.K.'s 50 pound note may have some significance, if not why would they show the word London on the note? (because as u should know there are more 50 pound notes around the world).

But i wouldnt go as far as saying Perplex City is a mirror universe or something, i just think that "The Gatekeeper" may have some meaning, maybe about Gatehouse 24 maybe not.

£50 - Sir John Houblon

Born in 1632, Sir John was one of seven brothers of Huguenot descent. He and four other members of the Houblon family were some of the first subscibers to the newly created Bank of England. While two of the brothers were elected as Directors Sir John became the first Governor of the Bank in 1694. After his term of office as Governor came to an end in 1697 he continued as a Director until his death in 1711.

His home in Threadneedle Street can be seen on the back of the note. The house, along with several others in Threadneedle Street, came into the Bank's possession in 1724 although it was not until 1731 that the decision was taken to use the land for the construction of a building to house the ever expanding Bank.

Tradition has it that the pink colour of the Bank's messengers' coats owes its origin to the livery worn by Sir John Houblon's household although there is no direct evidence to support this.

Well, if I was using an English bank, I would check it out or at least pass the name.
Anyway, my bank is Compass Bank, a relatively small Bank in the US.
The P.O. Box I mentioned is actually in Alabama.
So, this will lead to nothing (but if anyone finds more links, I'd love to be denied on this claim!), Sad

and then Sad some more

If you go to http://www.bankofengland.co.uk theres a section called "Know Your Notes", its a .pdf file bout 9.8 Mb, but its got a good picture of most of the bank notes used in England.

true, but £50 notes are rare. It's not asthough whoever took that photograph of "london" just reached in his/her back pocket and pulled it out, they would have had to go out of their way to get hold of it.
