Just wanted to throw some fish on the table. I know it's already been discussed before, but it seems releavant to repeat the spec that the Pious Flea is some kind of wheel-within-a-wheel Intel AI [perhaps from the Herzog McKaskill et. al faction] keeping an eye on the operations of the main AI.

At the least, it's goals certianly seem compatible with Herzogs.

 		I believe the timeline that has been established has this story happening during the events of Halo, right? Isn't that when The Fall of Reach was taking place?

And I would imagine that Cortana would transmit something about the halo to someone, that's pretty big news to sit on.

 		"Pillar of Autumn..." Yeah, that brought a little warmth to my heart. Ties it all together.

I'll tell you something weird, though - it's not as tight a fit as I'd imagined. It's hard to imagine that Jan, Kamal, Jersey, and crew are going through their personal dramas in the same context as MC is fighting off the Flood.

The people in these recordings are undeniably flesh and blood, while Master Chief, Keyes, and Cortana are all cartoon characters. They're really good cartoon characters - some of the best to spring forth from a computer or console. But their universe is polygons and shaders and bright, primary colors.

Anyone else have the same mental hiccup, after getting over the gee-whiz feeling of the reference?

That would be difficult. The Covies control the Space around Halo, so they could be jamming any outgoing signals. Plus with out the ship how could they send off signals that could reach earth so quickly? The reports in my mind are coming in after the MC goes to Reach in First Strike.

Fall of Reach takes place before The Flood (which is basically an expanded version of the Halo videogame storyline)

 		I admit it; I gave a little whoop of delight when I heard, but_not_likely.

Also, Jersey is so over-the-top, and I really, really love it. Please, let there be out-takes of this particular sequence, so we can laugh some more. He's the supreme dork, but quite loveable.

In the Halo game, level; The Maw, 343 Guilty Spark is accessing the PoA mainframe. It may be possible that somehow 343 duplicated the authentication code from PoA and sent some transmission to Earth. What his intentions would be, I haven't a clue, but I don't think that his role in the Halo story is done yet. This is based off the fact that if you've watched the ending movie of Halo that you see 343 fly off into space at the very end.
