And, their triggering the artifact just draws the Covenant to Earth.

According to the book Halo: First Strike. The Covie's have known about Earth for a while. And [SPEC] their invasion plans of Earth predated the invasion of Reach. [/SPEC]

I only say SPEC because I don't think it's spelled out, but it seems implied to me. Since the Covenant do not have direct FTL communications, they are limited to communicating via ship dispatch, like the UNSC. They just happen to travel much faster than UNSC ships.

I think what everyone tends to forget is that the Cole Protocol wasn't enacted until long after the first human ship was destroyed by the Covie's, and that during the battle for Harvest, the Covie's used invasive computer attacks to attempt to cause havoc among human ships.

What's to say that they haven't known all along where Earth was? They just did want to leave Earth worlds "at their back" during an invasion. It took over 20 years to wipe out the outer colonies and start work on the inner colonies. Mankind has spread out quite far.

What's to say indeed? But then I wonder aloud at what compelled the Covenant fleet, when they were right on Earth's doorstep, to suddenly U-Turn and follow a single escaping ship.

No, I'd have to say that while YES, the Covenant have known about Earth for a long time, I do not believe they knew of Earth's location.

I didn't think it was the entire fleet; after all, there were plenty of bogeys at Reach when the MC and his crew went back there to look for survivors.

My guess is that the Covenant are heading to Earth because of the artifact, just like they did at Reach. Maybe they're drawn to it, somehow. Or maybe the pulse that went off alerted them to its presence. I imagine we'll find out for certain either in Sunday's broadcast or in Halo 2 itself.

Just like they did at Reach? Was the artifact at Reach? My memory is bad. Jog it.

Who said anything about Halo 2? You were the first, so shut it.

You jump to conlcusions, my friend. I have no idea what the live Combat Exercise is, but that's probably why there aren't any transmissions that day.

You are incorrect and owe hurdleguy an apology as he was NOT the first person to mention HALO 2.

I point you to the post of XBSgronar which comes before hurdleguy's post

Long time lurker, first time poster. [spec] Could they be releasing Halo 2 early, as in this coming Tuesday?

Jeez. And I thought you people were cool. Guess I'm the idiot here, goodbye.
