I honestly dont think that an AI can just be created with that kind of personality she has now. Unless it is the personality of Hitler or Bin Laden.......

I've said it once, I'll say it again.

AIs, no matter who they're based off, will never be, can't be, human.

No matter what sort of attributes you assign them, they won't EVER behave in a way that you or I could understand fully, as they exist in a world that you and I can never undrestand fully.

Melissa did, what she felt was best. Just because SP was your favorite AI doesn't mean that she didn't need to go. You've no idea what kind of complications she might have been causing in whatever reality the AIs exist in.

Well, I dunno how much is spec and all that jazz but...

(put in spoiler to be super safe)

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Yasmine = Melissa (to some degree... somehow... erm... yeah)
Yasmine was yanked away from her home, trained harder than any other class of soldier as a child, and put under all sorts of tests. She doesn't survive. They use her brain (probably splitting various bits of her personality in the process) to create what she is now. Pile up an imminent alien invasion, crashing back into the future (being crazy for a bit as well), being disoriented because the place/time she are at is so different, and add that something is rummaging through her area and spying on her. As well as annoying because of all the I love bees crap (esspecially the sound files!). I would be freaked.

Somehow I probably messed that up beyond repair... What I was trying to get at is after everything she has been through, she probably is a bit paranoid at some force running through her domain spying on her.

Geez, I'm such a scatterbrain...

It appears that Dana's blog is not working. I can't access the site, anyone else?

it's 3:41 EDT, and yeah, same problem here... not a DNS error, just an indefinite lag. I'm sure they're working on it... and blogspot.com is OOG by the way, not affiliated with bungie/MS, so technically it's not their problem. Razz

For the record, I think the book that horrible Dana likes so much is Tristram Shandy by Laurence Sterne. I could be wrong. I haven't looked up all the phrases yet.

Sterne web site:
http://www.gifu-u.ac.jp/~masaru/Sterne_on_the_Net.html

Tristram Shandy search:
http://www.tristramshandyweb.it/search/search.html

I searched Tristram Shandy and indeed was able to source eight of the phrases. I lost patience and gave up on some of the more common phrases. Some phrases were repeated, but one of them I couldn't find at all, "HER ONLY CONSOLATION".
I'm not sure whether it's worth posting the vols./chps./pgs of the phrases I did discover. If yes, then let me know. Is there a thread for this in the puzzles section?

It looks like blogger is down. Strange that it would happen now that the SP is dead.
I don't believe in coincidence.

I made the effort, so I may as well post the info I found regarding Dana's phrases from her favorite book:

i find myself 9:30
vol3/ch20/p89,vol2/ch17/p155,vol3/ch10/p33

to her toes 10:24
vol8/ch20/p94

exchange a word 10:49
vol7/ch32/p119

life of socrates 11:02
vol5/ch12/p61,vol8/ch26/p117

in bodily pain 11:39
vol4/ch27/p168

before the gate 14:29
vol9/ch26/p115,vol2/ch1/p4,vol3/ch3/p12

i had escaped 15:31
vol8/ch22/p101

a burning fever 16:04
vol5/ch38/p130

the last fortress 17:23
Slawkenbergius's Tale p72

I have no idea why I went to all this effort. It's probably useless, but what's done is done.

I gave up on the Tristram Shandy search tool, but using google found "her only consolation" here, in Chapter 4.LXXXIII.:
http://www.fullbooks.com/The-Life-and-Opinions-of-Tristram-Shandy10.html

I'm not sure why I bothered either. It's likely almost-endgame behavior.

I haven't read any Sterne. A quick look to get a vague idea of what Tristram Shandy is about found this, which is sorta intrasting:
Quote:
The most striking formal and technical characteristics of Tristram Shandy are its unconventional time scheme and its self-declared digressive-progressive style. Sterne, through his fictional author-character Tristram, defiantly refuses to present events in their proper chronological order. Again and again in the course of the novel Tristram defends his authorial right to move backward and forward in time as he chooses.
...
By fracturing the sequence of the stories he tells and interjecting them with chains of associated ideas, memories, and anecdotes, Tristram allows thematic significance to emerge out of surprising juxtapositions between seemingly unrelated events. (from: http://www.sparknotes.com/lit/tristram/section10.rhtml)

Judging by that quote, Tristram sounds like a modern day Pulp Fiction.

Hey guys, I've started following the game a few weeks ago and I'm following the plot, but I'm just curious about something regarding Dana's weblog:

a person called Dan-o made the post:

Generally, the comments are to be taken as out-of-game, since there is no way to corroborate information divulged there with in-game stuff.

That is the way she was created, as a ruthless military tactician. if she wasn't created that way though... could it be rampancy? After everything that has been going on with the Covenent forces, has it changed what little bit of personality Smart AIs are allowed?

Certainly possible. I've not kept tabs on everything, but certain actions could be connected to the Anger stage of Rampancy.
