It is better

80s? YUCK. Cold weather is the best!!!

But, it won't be cold. It doesn't get cold, and I mean bundle up cold, until December. Earlier than that, it's just a bit nippy. Of course, Chicago cold is nothing compared to Madison cold, where lake effect takes on a whole new meaning.

Wow, I do listen to the ILB wavs to much... Angelo, as I read your last post, it was as if Jersey was reading it in my head... Then again, it does sound like a Jersey line...

For example of my weird tastes: ILB! Wink

Ditzy is not just for teenagers. Unfortunately, many of those girls never grow up, they just grow old. Which is to say, they become ditzy, petty, immature, cliquey, idiot women. (No, I don't have any pent up workplace frustration at all. Mad )

Which is annoying. The number of times Phaedra and I have heard guys complaining about their controlling, needy gfs who don't want to play Halo (at a Halo/video game party that they knowingly attended) we wonder, "Why don't you ditch the... (can you swear in here?)". It's because they don't know that there are women out there who are NOT like that.

So boys, you've been told.

Please Kali, please say it isn't so!

I always had this hope in my heart that one day, maybe, just maybe, I can get away from those types of people.

Amen! I don't know if it is the same with other women here, but at least with me, people seem to be suprised with the types of things I am into. Like FPS and the like. I just don't get why people are so shocked, its not like women are from cookie cutters...

It is a true fact. My Fiancee gets ME playing games. It is quite wonderful. The only downside is that between the two of us we're completely funding Best Buy's third quarter profits.

On T

Not to get this thread back on topic or anything, but I just wanted to give my ideas about what's going to happen on Nov. 4th.

Bungie doing Halo 2 multi-player is nothing new. They did it for E3 and for PAX (that thing the penny-arcade.com guys started).
From the 404.html page:
Quote:

...announce your presence to the attendant, who will check your name against a roster for priority admission.

Emphasis mine.

My guess is that this is going to be just a Halo 2 multiplayer event, and we the beekeepers are not going to be the only ones playing/attending. I don't really expect any of the voice actors/actresses to attend, or anthing really cool like that. There is the possibility of press being there, techtvG4WTF or what ever it's called now, probably being most likely. But that's it. I expect no more and when Bungie (obviously) exceeds my expectation, I will be thrilled.

I didn't feel like reading through 10 pages of posts this morning so trout me if you will. Very Happy

Kittens? What kittens? I don't see any kittens. Which is bad, 'cuz I wanted to play poker tonight...

Seriously, has anyone seen any advertising for a preview event outside of ilovebees? If not, they might be expecting everyone who attends to be in some way connected with ILB... either a lurker or a friend of a lurker. If this is the case, then they might still do something with the characters, as the only people who know about the event are in some way connected to the site.

Edit: decided to Google the question and found this contest for the NY area:

Fo shizzle. Manhatten is a good seven hours away from us, and as much as I'd love to be there, I can wait the five days until I have my own copy. (It is only three hours of gameplay.) :sigh: If only there was one closer. The experience of playing with hundreds of other beekeepers would be great. And Kamal even passed through Pittsburgh on his way to New Jersey, it's a gateway for a lot of people traveling east or west.

Too bad I don't sound a thing like him, cause I catch myself wanting to use his lines more then any one else...

Maybe I'm just being overly hopeful, but I really think the majority of the attendees will be ILB related. Granted there will probably be some contests or such, as Kali pointed out, to give other people a chance to find out, but my hope is that will be the exception not the rule.

[spec] Maybe they plan on letting the beekeepers have the first opprotunity for 'priority' admission, then if there are spaces left, they'll open those for the masses...[/spec]

I understand. Kali's workplace frustration...

Kali wrote:

...notwithstanding, most petty, ditzy, immature teenage girls grow up. Many of them grow up to be warm, compassionate, understanding women.

Pettiness is self-centered hyperattention to what other people do, feel and say. But teenagers are supposed to be self-centered. In all the complaining about teenagers, that often gets forgotten. Teenagers are busy figuring out who they are, so their attention should be on themselves. Frequently, it's annoying; sometimes, it hurts others. But that's the way it works.

In most cases, as they grow up, the self-centered element fades, as does the exaggerated attention to others. Remove those two elements, and you have attention to what other people do, feel and say. In other words, interpersonal interest and in a best-case scenario, empathy. So don't give up on the petty teenage girls.

For individuals like you, who are more mature and obviously more introspective, yes, waiting for your peers to grow up is bloody annoying. But hang in there, it'll happen.

Yep, yay stereotypes.

Yes, but the problem is not that they don't like Halo. It's fine not to like video games. I, personally, cannot stand baseball. It's a matter of taste, like everything else.

The problem isn't that they're dating boys who love Halo.

The problem is that they put themselves in a situation they knew ahead of time they wouldn't enjoy, and then blamed their boyfriends for it.

This is certainly not an exclusively feminine problem -- it's just more likely to be expressed certain ways when the person is female. (There are plenty of controlling, needy men out there, of course.)

The problem is in how they view their relationship (and it's an all too common problem). They're trying to make it a 50%-50% relationship. "If I do this for you, you do something for me in the future." "I'll go to the Halo party with you if you come to the concert with me." "If I put up this wallpaper, you have to leave me alone to watch the game on Sunday."

Tit for tat doesn't work, because it makes everything a negotiation, and it means that the negotiations can have a winner or a loser. If you're asking yourself who wins, you need to reassess the relationship.

Ideally, she'd go to the Halo party because she knew it would make him happy. And he'd put up the wallpaper for her because he knew it would make her happy. If both members of a relationship genuinely care about eachother, and genuinely want to make the other happy, there may still be some negotiation, but it's probably going to be done in good humor, it's going to be about minor issues and it's not going to leave either party unhappy or resentful.

For a relationship like this to work, of course, there has to be trust on both sides. If one person is trying to make the other person happy while the other is trying to get what he or she wants, it's either going to fall apart or be one of those relationships that are, for lack of a better term, icky.

But in any case, the problem with the aforementioned girls is that they allowed the situation to make them resentful, which says to me that they weren't genuinely doing it to make their boyfriends happy.
