I, like Arana and many others, am just holding onto that last little tiny glimmer of hope that SP is still alive in some form, some where... Unfortunately I'm reminded of many of the "no way James is dead" posts when his demise came. Sad

We will all miss her (yes, even me Shocked), just as we miss James, just as we will miss all of these characters once the story is over.

One of the best signs of a good book/movie/story = you miss it when it's over. I've read the Lord of the Rings trilogy 6 times, the Halo trilogy 2 times, and watch my favorite movies over and over again. Why do that when you know what the ending is already? Because you love the stories, the characters, and the feelings it brings. I'm definitely keeping these sound files stored away someway safe when this is all done with.

Well, I don't know about anyone else, but when I answered my personal axon today (yay for forgetting your cell phone!) Mel seemed to have... moments, I guess, where she just sounded so much like the Princess. Too similar IMO. Maybe... She's starting to degrade after doing that? Or was this there yesterday? Or weeks before. Perhaps, the SP lives on in Mel somehow.

I am going to put my opinion in that SP is not dead. and heres why.

Without the SP the Flea has no where else to go or do. As we have seen he does not have the full control over Melissa that everyone thought early on. He is now stuck in the past with Melissa unable to reveal the truth. Melissa is left to do nothing but hinder Durga's attempts to find the truth and possably stop the assalt on Chawla base by the Durga Team. Basicaly i belive that without Yasmine/SP the story stagnates.

So heres my [spec] and hopes
the Pious Flea is not a covie spie but a process put in by Herzog, and PF was able to !grope and some how save SP and we will see her again. My hope is that ultimatly she will be taken back to the future and be a seporate AI from Durga. Durga stays with Jersey, Yasmine is reunited with Kamal, they cut the link between Durga and Melissa who is then left to fester in ILB webserver untill its thrown out.

If it's a recording, it may be the same.

My only regret is that we weren't given enough time to truly pick sides.

But maybe that's the brilliance of Melissa. She was recruiting us to destroy SP and we had NO idea.

Granted, I didn't mind, because I'm intensely supportive of the operator, but as a player, I can't help but feel played.

It was Yasmine that players just nuked - the conscience and humanity of Melissa. Now all we have is a rampant AI that is willing to kill, harm or maim anyone in her path to reach her goal.... And what is her goal? We don't know - although the Pious Flea seems to have some kind of influence currently.

The players so far have walked into every trap.

Max, you're absolutely right. There is a high possibility that we've just unleased a real killer. And yes. We have fallen into every trap, because we were playing the game.

No matter how often players sent e-mails to Dana, Mel, or SP, proclaiming their allegiance, no matter how many times we tried to "trick" Mel, when it came to the axons, all we knew was that we wanted the next set of waves, so whether we supported SP or no, we answered those axons and completed those missions.

Melissa has trained us like dogs, on the threat of a disconnect, to answer questions and solve puzzles rapidly. She wants to know she can trust us, and because we're so anxious to be active players in this game, we prove to her that she can.

I'm not saying this is wrong, but Max is right. We did bring this upon ourselves. Like I said before, Grant is loving every moment of this, but I can't help but feel the the impact of this irony.

Here's a thought. We who have followed Bungie for so long, we who have been in pain, waiting for Halo 2...
We wanted it so badly. Well guess what? We've made it happen. When Durga goes down [spec], the artifact will reach it's end, and within moments, the Covenant fleet will arrive.

Welcome to Halo 2. You can proudly say you've helped make it happen.[/spec]

I agree with that, if not the specifics, at least the spirit. We are making the prologue to Halo 2, which has a pre-determined plot. No matter what we do the end of this will be the Covenant ringing our doorbell.

We didn't like it when JJ bought it. We didn't like it when SP bought it. We aren't going to like watching Jan die either. <----- EEEK! I hope I'm wrong.

EDIT: I can spell Covenant right if I want to...

My turn to fire of emotionally charged Comments Wink

The SP got nabbed by a combined effort from crew loyal to both factions.
There was no evil plot by the Melissa Faction to trick anyone this caught all of us by surprise.

Yes I feel bad that she got caught. I had the chance to talk to her And she really seemed like a nice little girl but she was warned, she thought she was able to beat the queen, she made the mistake.

Lets not forget that the reason Durga thought she was going Rampant was from the actions of Flea and princess send her the wav files.

The picture is only now fully coming into focus. I think this Sun will be very telling. I for one will await my orders and due my assigned tasks

oh yeah... i know, i didn't see where anyone actually brought it up though, it was really just an afterthought to my own post... i'm not actually implying that you "lost" anything, because this isn't a flamewar, its just a rather heated discussion, but somehow we're still being polite to one and other Smile

sleeping princess, you may be gone, but not forgotten. As long as the light of this candle continues to flicker, so do our hopes that you will be found alive and well.

now, Godwin's law... how interesting, and useful.(seen too many instances in the past where I wish I had known of this) hmmmm

What if the count down timer is counting off what ever is bringing back Melisa?

I'm going to chime in and add my little bit of dubious opinion, spec, and explanatory exposition.

My mind is weighing several concepts at the moment, so I'll just throw them out at random.

  • If the "suppressed personality" is meant to be kept locked away, hidden, and inaccessible from the AI, wouldn't the release of that personality constitute a rogue process?
  • If the AI is a military weapon, the personality should not be allowed to interact or influence the AI as that would compromise the AI's effectiveness. In that case, Melissa Eliminating SP would make no difference in her operations.
  • The SP was released as a sentient entity due to the crash, prior to which she was locked in a "glass coffin". Does this mean that every military AI constructed from a human mind contains a sentient entity restrained from interaction but fully cognizant of it's surroundings? Can this be construed as torture?
  • If Melissa reintegrates the Durga construct/avatar, will the SP be "reborn", yet still locked away?

My last thought concerns the method of time travel, so I will post it in the "broadcast"
thread.

Max Damage,

I sent a long-ass e-mail to Dana explaining what I thought should be done. I had gotten a special commendation in the analog photo thinger, and so I was replying to Melissa's request for help in figuring out what the Rogue Process was, and if she was a virus. (eta that I generally loathe sending in-game e-mails. I did it for this game, and I did it to an extent for the Beast, but it feels stilted and goofy to me, so sending this e-mail was a bit trying.)

I was heartfelt, as clear as I could be, based on the information given, and at no point did any of my proposed action intend any harm to the SP. If anything, I likened her to a firewall, for all the groping and attaching the Flea was trying to do, she resisted until the very end ...

The PM's chose to use NONE of my suggestions, as far as I can tell. I have read and heard about at least a dozen other e-mails sent to Dana proposing different courses of action, all defending and/or protecting the SP in some way. Some peeps did not, of course.

You claim you are frustrated by the people who don't even know who Kamal is, or what the Spartan program is all about. How should we, the people who tried to save the SP, feel about you not reading up on these threads and seeing all the evidence that we have laid out, at our attempts to prevent the very thing the PM's went ahead with anyway?

Man, throw the word 'stupid' around all you want, but it's not likely to win you any support in your low-level crusade. I think there is still some hope that she exists in some form, but ... if she is truly gone, I know I did the best I could with the information I had.

Orders are orders.

If you joined the crew or the SPArmy, you signed up in the service of a military vessel's controlling AI.

Whether anyone had real control over the story after that point can be easily stifled by chain-of-command.

Ma'am, yes ma'am.

I'm just upset that after all of this, there are only four sites at which we could muster, and they are all far, far away from me. Shame on you, bungie.

Haha! Yeah, when I saw there were only four locations I didn't dare to hope. Then I checked the netninja blog... yep, none near Portland Oregon. None within 12 hours of Portland. Damn.

I would have liked to see one in every major metro that had axons. That would have made a lot of sense...

What about the DC hunters that worked their butts off? How far is New York from DC?

Watch any war movie. You know the guy who is showing off pictures of his family and talking about going home after this mission? Guess what always happens to him.

The SP was doing the same thing, and this is technically a war story. I wish I could say I saw this coming, but I didn't. Hindsight being 20/20, it's perfectly obvious.

I am continually impressed with the PM's ability to stir the forums into a frenzy. Weephun was the first person to recieve the ire of the community. Thin Kinkle was next. (Not to compare the two. I still think Weephun played his role beautifully) This time we don't really have a target, since we all played a role.

So... Who's answering phones next week? Twisted Evil
