Yes, in general it is. No one's called me a b*tch yet, and other than one homophobic insult (of which the target was Justin Timberlake, not homosexuals) there haven't been any racial/ethnic/whatever slurs, which is *very* nice. There actually have been very few out-and-out insults, and those that have occurred have been mostly in this thread. Generally in forums like this, a few trolls always seem to slip in past the moderators, but it's been a pleasant surprise here.

The level of general *ickiness* is why I gave up on newsgroups (seriously, you wouldn't believe the newsgroups) and chat and most other online activities.

This has been a glorious surprise.

i agree... i too have all but given up on reading through forums, chat, etc.... but i have been very happy (this thread excluded) with everyone who's been largely involved in this community... (:

Phaedra define your idea of a diverse community please.

Diversity

A diverse community, in my mind, is one that represents (within reason) the whole spectrum of racial/ethnic, religious, political, educational, socioeconomic, etc. differences in the larger community of which it is part. Also, I would include different professions, ages, sexual orientation, and regions. I don't feel that the proportions in a group like this (as opposed to, say, a college campus) need to be the same as they are in the general population (I would say, here, the general population of the U.S. simply because the vast majority of the players are here, the company is here, and, because there were originally no axons anywhere else, I think it was initially directed at the U.S. or at least North America -- I'm not intending to include our friends elsewhere, but I don't think they were part of the original audience the designers envisioned. Heh. Bet they were surprised.)

We just don't seem that diverse to me -- although, a number of people have informed me by PM that we may be more diverse than I originally estimated. Anyway, that would be my description of a truly diverse community.

Sounds like a pretty good definition to me. I would tend to agree that the cultural starting point for most ARG'ers is fairly similar (ie; Western), and that cultural background has the most influence on what we expect and how we think.

Hmm, strange. Just went to the recipe8 page and the flea's mantra was there. Refreshed twice, still there both times. Refreshed again, now it's gone and has yet to come back.

I know that this would happen on certain pages previously, I just hadn't seen it again since last tues. hmmm. Could have been a cache problem or something though. Who knows. ....

Then, forget the ping requests. Apparently, the site is just down from my ISP.

I know we've moved on, but

Phaedra, I know you're probably joking, but seriously, lay off Chappy. If we'd been 3 seconds faster, I might've started laughing just at the wonder of playing such a pivotal, if dastardly, role in the game.

As was said by someone else here, there are a lot of reasons why people might start laughing, not all of them imply mental disturbance.

But, you know this already, so I'm putting it here, in friendly purple, just to clarify.

And on topic,

she might be alive? whoo hoo!

Well, yes, but I thought we'd already established that you are evil. Smile

And thank you for clarifying with color. Since it's in friendly purple, I'll come out from under my desk.
